Want to test fit on an unrolled "stock" fender before I commit to a set.

I've got my 225/45/15 ToyoRR's on 15x8+20 wheels you can test, but I can already tell you they should rub the outer fenders in the rear. Searching Miata.net will net you what fits and what doesn't pretty reliably. But frankly, just roll the fenders... they're super easy to get a clean roll and you'll be able to fit 225's easily.

Unfortunately Dean can't roll his fenders running in C Street.

If he's running in CS, then he's running on stock wheels, and 225/45-15's are supposed to clear on an NB on 15x6 stock wheels according to miata.net.

Cool. We expect that they will, Dean just wanted to be certain before he gets stuck with a brand new set of tires he can't run.

E Street actually, and I am running 15x6.5 ET40 which is a -1 legal wheel compared to the earlier/base 15x6 ET45 wheels.
I have failed to find anything really definitive on Miata.net on this configuration on stock fenders. The wider wheel and lower offset I fear puts the fenders in play. If I could have found a reasonably priced light 15x6.5 ET 45 wheel I would have been much happier. I'll live with 205s, but would like to see what the 225s look like.

A 6.5 et40 is 1 mm closer to the struts and 11 mm closer to the fender vs the 6" et45. That's only .433 inches. Do you think the 225's on the 6" wheel are less than half a inch from the fender that you'd need for your wheels?
I put 225/45/15's RS3's on a 15x8+22 (1.889 inches closer to the fender than the 6" wheels) and didn't need much of a roll (no pull, just folded the lip flat), and that's on a lowered NA with relatively soft springs. The NB is supposed to have plenty more fender than the NA... even tirerack lists wheels for the cars as "fits on NB, some fender modification possibly required for NA". I'd be willing to bet you're okay with the 225s on those wheels.

Would just rather be safe/sure than sorry. Or at least out $130 for a tire I can't return.

You could try Mr. Hubcap (or another used tire place), no? They were always super helpful and inexpensive when I needed oddball tire things done (like repeated mounting and dismounting).

I'll check at my dealership in the morning. Maybe I'll have something off a Acura.
