Farmers is giving you 2 grand for the repair?! And MORE money for the rental car? I believe farmers initally gives you cash for the rental car based on their rate and the days it'll take to repair your hood. So, you can take the 2 grand, and the rental car money ($150?) and buy a CF hood for $400, paint it if you wish? $300. Have $1450 to get a new turbo engine (JDM) install it and prolly still have money left over to buy ice cream or whatever. Am I wrong?

The ice cream part pretty much makes that plan a done deal.

I'm sure they are. I mean, I can see the Mexican border through the window of my public speaking class. Anything dealing with a tacos or burritos must be here.

I think Choco Tacos are a pretty loose association with actual mexican food.

Correct

The State Farm gave me $1,800 plus a rental car for eight days while I get it fixed.

Are you joking? $1800? Why? That's stupid. It's cool for you but seems moronic for a crumpled hood. What does $1800 cover? Insurance is stupid. This is why I have an insane premium? So insurance companies can dish out hundreds of dollars on nothing? -1 for life.

Um, have you ever had a car repaired? Just off the top of my head:

New OEM hood from Subaru - $400
Painting the hood - $300
Bumper repair - $300
Bumper painting - $300

There's $1300 right there, and doesn't include the labor to remove and reinstall the parts!

Most the people in this club are mechanically inclined and take for granted how hard something like swapping a hood is for someone that's never been around car repair. Being able to fix stuff is actually a very valuable skill, which is why shops can charge so much for labor. Most people have to pay those high prices, since there's zero change they could do it themselves. Insurance payouts are right in line w/ the cost of the repairs, if not actually a little low.

Haha, oh really? I thought it was $1800 just for the hood and grill repair/painting.

New OEM hood from Subaru - $400 well hell if thats what an OEM one costs you definately can get a CF one and save the paint money too. unless you want to paint over it.

The insurance companies find every way to lower the prices. My lil honda got some front end damage, and the ended up paying $1600 but the repairs if I had the shop do it were about $2700 based on two estimates I got. I have come to learn that Insurance companies dont go by anyones estimate but the adjusters. No matter what you have to say about it.

There is a company in Vegas that warehouses all the CF hoods for most cars, I recently emailed them to purchase one from ebay and asked if I could pick it up instead of paying the shipping. What they said was they don't normally do that but if I called ahead they would arrange pickup and save the shipping.

I know this wont work if you dont know someone in or are able to visit Vegas, but its something to think about.

I dig the lines on the L hood. Very skylineish. So what kind of rental car did they give you? Have you rallied it yet?

I'm using one of State Farm's "service first" shops that goes off the estimate done by the claims agent. If the shop needs to fix extra things that weren't noted in my estimate State Farm picks up the bill.

I popped the hood today to find my radiator support/fan shroud was bent, so State Farm is taking care of that as well as a laser unibody alignment and all that. I told them not to paint the hood, grill, and bumper because I'm going to get the entire thing painted once I get out of basic training, so that's more money in my pocket Not only did I not pay my deductable due to the money I saved on the hood, but I'm also making ~$300 profit when all is said and done.

Bobby, they gave me an '05 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab. It was either that or a Geo...

Personally I would have taken the Geo. I hope you don't have to put gas in that Dodge, although you do live in Bush country so gas is cheaper, because he steals it all.

I got in contact with Racecompengineering about getting a genuine V5 grill at their advertised price of $130. They said, "Yeah, we can get it for that price, but you won't get it for six to eight weeks." They don't stock them, so I have to wait till their next shipment comes form Japan.

I got it back!

All the under hood stuff is fixed, new L hood is on, and I'm waiting on the V5 grill. Yes, the hood is black because the shop that did the work didn't laser match the paint and I didn't want them to attempt to blend it. Also, I wanted to save money
