Dean, I'm assuming that "245" was a typo... putting a 245 on a wagon will rub... hell, it doesn't really fit on the sedan!

I believe a 7.5" rim should be between a +48 and +53 offset. I ran 17"x7.5" +48 Attacks w/o an issue. But the 17"x8" +48 Enkies rubbed in the rear at Thunderhill.

You are right, I meant 205, I went the wrong way adding 20 instead of subtracting. The key is, Offset is going to make a big difference in making the 225s he wants fit on a wagon.

I agree, the large the offset (up to about +53) the better the chances of a 7.5" wide wheel tire combo fitting on a wagon.

All questions of "will wheel X and tire Y fit my Z Subaru?" come down to very simple checks. Take the added width of the new tire, plus the added width of the wheel, plus the change in offset of the new wheel, and see if you have that much room between the sidewall and fender lip. Uusually, you don't. But it's an easy check.

Man, this "offset" stuff is getting too complicated for me. Can someone tell me if this combo is a good idea: Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s @ 225/45YR17 and ASA AR1 17x7 or O.Z. Superlegerra 17x7 wheels. I found all of them on Tirerack.com and thought that would work until someone brought up the "offset" issue and now I'm a little nervous. And BTW I'm so glad we all agree that 17s are best for my wagon, saved between 900 and 2000 bucks combined on rims and tires going to 17s from 18s. I also saw somewhere that Potenza S-03s @ 235/40/17s would fit on it too so I'd appreciate any feedback again. Thanks

Others here have probably had that combination or something close to it, but, not sure about wagon owners. (Art?)

The older models wrx's had a different fender flare/front wheel well dimensions, so I would go with the opinion from someone who these on a wagon. (Unless 05's are now the same, wagon to sedan.)

Or - did you use the Tirerack website to find that combination? They have the series of questions for vehicle type/model/year, and then the tire/wheel chooser presents the choices that would be appropriate for the vehicle. If you selected the choices that way, I would have some faith that this combination is a good one. Finally, Luke on tirerack (his email & phone # is on nasioc) can help you weed out what would not work. Hope that helps.

I dont know if I can help any, but a 235/45 on a 7" wide rim doesnt sound right

I think the 225 is the widest tire you would want to run and that I think is on the high side?

The OZ Superlegerras will fit with 225s probably, but no way you're stuffing 235 S03s under a wagon without a lot of rolling. Your car has barely more clearance than mine, and I had rubbing with 215/45R17 S03s. I can't guess about the ASAs without knowing the offset. That info should be posted on TireRack. There's also the 17x7.5" Rotas from www.subydude.com to consider. Those should almost all fit with most 225s and only very minor persuasion to the fender lip.

yah really if you can you want to max the contact patch as mach as you can you need to try to find a 17X7.5" and that will hold the 225. You almost need to go with an 8" width if you want to go for the 235 or 245 but you would also need to foll your fenders to get them in there.
