I'll call you after the SCCA meeting?

You are going to be tooling around pretty late right?

Still up. I have the grill off, headlights out, sway bar off, mbc off, itg out, and catback off.

Tasks for tomorrow are Downpipe, Foglights, IC hoses, Side Markers, and HD mounts.

Bh I totally bailed on you Art, sorry.

But I can swing by after work before the meet?

I actually want to keep my stock grill now though. So we might not be able to work anything out.

Cool. I'll just keep it on there. It goes today.

If anyone wants a ITG filter, I need your stock one by tonight + lets say 10$.

I'll need directions since I've never been to the new house... or I guess I could ask MattQuest.com.

Hey art... I just realized that I flaked on you w/ that air filter... with all the SRIC orders I was packaging up I totally blew it.

If you've still got the car, I can come by your office at lunch or something and drop off the paper filter for ya!

Here's a question... is the tranny cooler somehow tranny specific? Or can I buy it and use it as an oil cooler?

You got me. The Hayden is actually for motor homes and stuff like that, but Jorge from Nasioc installed one on his 4EAT WRX.

I think it could be used as a oil cooler.

Scott. I was looking around, I had the same question, I think that cooler can be used as an oil cooler no problem.

Usually there's no difference between a tranny cooler and an engine oil cooler. 'Cept for the thermostat perhaps...

But looking at the picture, I don't see a thermo at all. Plus, I'm going to want to do a remote filter as well. I should probably just buy a kit w/ all the parts I need instead of this one and adding a bunch of parts.

Or I could install it on the SVX... 'course I don't plan on keeping the 4EAT on that for all that long that a cooler is necessary. One of the other SVX owners should pick this up!

I wouldn't. You should at least look at the tubing size in the cooler, the size of the lines, and the pressure rating of the lines pretty carefully before using that on anything as critical as engine oil. All that line length can add quite a bit more resistance to the system if it isn't sized right.. you probably shouldn't use anything under AN-10. Plus, like you were saying if it's street-driven it should really have a thermostat. If you're serious about getting one and can't find anything good let me know, maybe we can piece together a kit out of our inventory.

AFAIK, oil coolers in general have larger fittings and larger tube sizes than tranny coolers. At least it seems to be the case with the few I've sold to people. ATF is typically thinner than motor oil, but if you were running 5W30 or less you might be able to get away with it. I would rather get a specific oil cooler and play it safe though.

Touch a piece of drivetrain that cost more than my whole car? Sweet......
How soon 'til the install? Actually, I want to see an SVX with a stick.....

I'm funds limited right now on the install. Once I get my shit together, I'm planning on putting the 6-speed in the WRX as soon as I can. I was hoping to get it done this month, but it's not looking good, with taxes coming and all.

Once the 6-speed is in the WRX, the 5-speed gets to chill at the shop for a bit. I have a list of stuff I want to do to the SVX, and I'd like to get it all done at once:

5-speed (WRX 3.545)
dual exhaust (2.25" stainless, 2 cats, 2 resinators, 2 mufflers)
shocks/springs (bilstens, GC perches, eibach springs)

So, once the WRX is all set, I'm gonna try to take care of all of the SVX stuff at once... funds allowing.

As far as the cooler... like I said, I want a remote filter, thermostated, cooler. So I'll probably just do it all at once. And I'd like SS line w/ earl fittings because an oil line failure at a track would probably mean the end of the motor before I even realized it was leaking.
