Default 2006 Goldsboro airshow pictures

I went out to Seymour Johnson AFB (home to a Strike Eagle wing) in Goldsboro last weekend for the airshow and took some pictures, I thought I'd post them up.

Some highlights:

Vintage action

Warthogs

I spotted this hotness in a base parking lot.

F-22. Pretty damn bad ass. It ended its display by standing on its tail, pouring on the burners, and simply disappearing straight up into the sky. Didn't see it again all day.

A turbine-powered port-o-potty. I have now seen everything.

Looks like when sperry has 1 too many burritos at lunch...

Thunderbirds display

The rest here: http://profile.imageshack.us/user/adowdy

Man, that's pimp! And yes, that's what the port-o-let does if I've eaten El Rosal.

Laura's Nikon D70. I get to borrow it when I'm nice to her.

The light was really hard for me to deal with at this show. The crowd/display area was on the north side of the runway (which runs E-W), so I was mostly shooting into the sun all day for any air shots. A lot of shots were under or over-exposed since I was adjusting settings manually.

Shooting aircraft mid-day is hard no matter what angle you're at! You really need to shoot before 10 am and after 4 pm for the light to be helpful.

Okay, now imageshack is breaking. The pictures I linked to are starting to disappear. WTF? You're supposed to be able to hotlink to them with thumbnails...

Thanks, its just a matter of getting the exposure right. Try changing your EV settings if you are under/over exposing shots

Okay I'm being a cameratard here... EV settings?

I was mostly keeping the ISO & aperture settings constant, and varying the shutter speed to meter light. The biggest problem seemed to be that I could be pointing the camera west at a plane one second, and have a good amount of light, and then when I tracked the plane towards the sun the light would be all screwed up. Towards the end of the day I kinda settled on a couple of shutter speeds that seemed to be in between what both light extremes needed and just clicked away, hoping I would get some useful shots.

Yea, its the -/+ setting on the camera. This is a great guide. Yea the changing light is also a problem. For props I longer a shutter speed to get the blur, so you need to up your F stop. The jets you can use a higher shutter speed and lower f stop.
