Default STI intercooler in my future?

Talking with Paul at DB Tuned about the wagon's set up next year. He asked if I could change the size of the intercooler and at the time I did not know. We would like to run a STI intercooler because of it's increased size and well you can come by a take off eazy.

Under Street Prepared Rule 15.10 C. 3.-Engine and Drivetrain. The wording about intercoolers looks promising. What I found I liked because the words are"unristricted in size and configuration".

I would like to double check with everyone on this and not make a stupid move my jumping up a class. Please give the rule a read and let me know. Additionally, I can not find the specific line in Apendix A on the 2006 WRX. Looking into it for updating/backdating engine and braking systems.

Thankyou to all. D-

Intercoolers are open. Turbo, wastegate and I think BOV must remain stock... But I may be wrong on BOV.

I have a very large WRX width polished PWR bar/plate intercooler you might consider. Let me know if you are interested.

What's the make of the intercooler and do you know anything about a possible back date of parts between the 06 and 05 WRX?

You don't have to UD/BD the intercooler, you can do whatever you want with it, including front mount. But like Dean said, you have to keep the stock BPV. I would recommend the STi topmount over the one Dean has (sorry Dean) because OEM-style tube and fin cores will cool off much faster after getting heatsoaked. A thick bar-and-plate core won't cool off until your run is pretty much over.

No biggie, but I don't beleive he can modify the scoop and related parts, so he can't use the additional width of the STI model and make a good seal with it.

And a garden sprayer water soaked bar and plate should be better then a tube and fin unless you get stuck idling at the line for 10 minutes. Much less of a heatsoak possibility IMHO.

Mine also had silicone hoses by the way.
