Default Gas Tank Fill Problem

Shortly after I bought the car I noticed a problem filling up at the pump. It seems to have a problem venting. Depending on the gas station and the speed of the pump it normally goes to about .5 gallon pumped before it clicks off. Then I just squeeze it again and it starts pumping and then clicks off again shortly after. I have to do this all the way until full. I have searched nasioc a bunch but I was never able to find anything worth my time. Has anyone else had this problem? I am looking to get this taken care of ASAP because its balls ass cold outside.

You start a lot of threads.

This happened to me sometimes with my WRX but I always thought it was a problem with the pump and not the car. I would sit there and have to baby the pump to get it to fill correctly. hmm.

When that happens to me I just pull the nozzle out a bit and tilt the handle down as far as possible. Seems to fix it. Doesn't happen very often though, so I figured it was certain pumps only.

nope its unfortunately not under any. I am pretty sure Eric said something to me about it and that perhaps a hose is pinched or came undone. I dont remember it was a while ago.

350Zs have this problem. There's a line that runs along side the fill tube that allows the tank to vent air pressure back up when you fill up, (fuel goes in displacing air in the tank, and the air comes back up this line) and they have a tendency to plug up. Makes the fuel pump pop off like you described. I'm not sure how the Subi setup on this is, but something to check in to.

Ok I am about to buy a new vapor canister. Does anyone know if there is a way to test of my current one is bad? If not I feel this is the last thing it could possibly be and I just need to spend the $65.

Most people don't want to listen to me when I tell them things, but I will go as far as to say that there is NO WAY your evap canister can cause this.

Testing an evap can is a matter of visually inspecting for leaks, and then weighing it. There's a specific weight that it's supposed to be under, and if it's over that, it's storage capacity is maxed out.

Wow, you are some kind of Chump.

THERE IS NO WAY THE EVAP CANISTER COULD CAUSE THAT.

Listen to the guy with the Applied Automotive Science Degree... and the guy who works next to him, and has to hear him complain about dropping the rear end out of Zs to get to a little hose that causes this problem.

Why do you say that I dont listen to you. This is the FIRST time that you have said "there is NO WAY the canister would cause this". You told me to check the hoses for clogs. I checked all the hoses and there was no obstruction. So what does this leave for me to try other then the canister?

What weight should it weigh under? What does it store? and if its storage capacity is maxed out, would that cause this problem?

Wow, you are some kind of a pain in ass.

The only reason I ever said anything about the canister is because cody suggested it. And after he did, Cory never said "that is positively not the problem". he said check the hoses for clogs so I did.

Bob Danger I dont know if I did something to piss you off but this is getting old. Maybe your just a dick because you want to be. I never remember you ever posting anything of value that has ever helped me. All of your post have been similar to this one, completely worthless.

You know I just don't like you. Which is weird, ask anyone that knows me, and they'll tell you I'm generally a nice guy, but out of respect for the club, I'm just going to go on ignoring you.

Thank You, and Goodnight.

Update:
I took off the vapor canister to weigh it. As I had it in my hands I noticed that 2 of the outlets on it were packed with charcoal(fuel tank & purge). I have no idea how one of these work but I assumed it wasnt suppose to be that way. So I took a screw driver and cleared each hole. Then I tipped it over and dumped the loose charcoal into a bottle. Then after cleaning everything I reinstalled it and went to the gas station. I filled up the tank without it popping off once. So it appears that the canister was the cause of the problem. Does this mean I should get a new one or is that just something that happens?

"I don't know how the Subi setup is" = I can't draw you a road map to this specific part, but it's there, and what I described is exactly what it does.

While pulling on the evap lines, you likely accidentally knocked out the blockage in the vent line, or just managed to release enough system pressure for it to allow you to fill the tank, in which case, it may come back... For your sake, hopefully you got lucky and knocked out your blockage.

So you dont think that the fuel tank hole and purge hole being plugged was the blockage?
