Bad Motor Mount?
Is there a way to tell weather or not I have a bad motor mount? The reason I ask is because when I turn the car off it has a shake to it.

Have someone key the ignition while you look at the motor. If you get more than 2" or so of movement, you need mounts.
Or you could just go get some Group N mounts installed anyway, they're worth it even if your mounts are fine.

I <3 my Group N Motor/Tranny Mounts. They actually make the car shake a bit at idle, but it's worth it.

Yep, i have a nice new set of groupN's ready for install. Like Kevin said, any movement much more than 2" or so means it's time to replace.

I have group N engine mounts, dog bone, and tranny mount.
Definitely a good choice. I'd use the Cuscos though if they were SP legal.

Cusco's own the Group N units, if your not prohibited from using them due to class rulings I highly recommend them over the group N.

Why do you highly reccomend them over the group N? Also consider that my car is 99% daily driver. I think there might be a problem with the engine or tranny mount because I did have to replace the pitch stop mount earlier due to it being broken in half. As I was telling Khail, the was in an accident in the past reguardless of what carfax says. As long as there are no adverse effects due to a broken mount I think I will just leave it until I can get someone who would know by looking, to look at it.

The Cusco's don't have an adverse effect on your daily driving and are 10x stiffer than the Group N.

If you had a broken dog bone, you may well have broken or already had a bad lower mount. For a daily driver, I'd just put in the Group Ns or stockers. I would think the Cuscos would be to stiff.

The Cusco mounts are full metal, so I think they will put you in Street Mod. However since you don't care aboot autocross go with the Cusco, they may cause the engine vibration during idle to be a little harsh, aswell as during start up. I say go for it, ey.

Hey Matt... when you swap in those GrN mounts... can I have your stock mounts? My SVX needs some (the stock ones are *fluid filled* for christsakes!) and the WRX/STi mounts are workable with some simple spacers. I'd use mine off the WRX (since I've got the GrN mounts now) but my OEM ones are in the list of parts than never came back from S-Squared. So even if yours are beat, they're probably better than the ones on the SVX.

I don't think the cuscos are a solid block of metal. I thought there was still some isolation in them. At least that's how they look.

They aren't 100% metal, but they have more metal than stock, so it comes to the same thing as far as autocross classing is concerned.

Shifting feels a lot more solid. Transmission noises are more prominent around the neighborhood decel. High idle has a little more vibration. Highway cruise doesn't seem to be any different. I got these the same time I had my Cobb block and Exedy stage 1 clutch put in. My block is pretty noisy compared to stock. I hear every bit of that extra noise under all loads. But cruise is quiet. A stock block won't be that bad. Feels just like when I put engine mount inserts on my civic. I believe both Paul@dbtuned and dz have these mounts as well. |

Hey, just FYI... the 2007 SM rules now allow solid metal motor mounts:

My group N Mounts failed after around a year. They didn't hold up well and were in worse shape than the stock ones that I removed after 2 years. I replaced them with more group N parts. The parts look different from stock(more rubber) but I was very disapointed in them. I may try Cusco next.
I also considered welding them solid. T

Oh yes,
I got the Ghia running great with the Fuel injection and Turbo. I need to drive it this year and sort out the suspension. Life is good, I have a new job in Carson and have some extra $ to play with. I will be out this year for sure. My boss drives an Evo and he said he will come play with us. Hope everyone had a good new year and are ready for the next season! Do you guys think its my driving that is tearing up the motor mounts? T
