Snow Tire Recommendations
Since I am at the lake a few times a week, I know the value of good snow rubber. I suspect that I'll probably make the stock rims my winter rims.
What snow tires has this group had good luck with? Where is a good place to get them if I need them mounted to my current rims? And how much should I expect to pay for them. How is the performance? Thanks. |

I think most of us agree these are worth the money.
Dunlop Winter Sport M2 and Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 I think these might be really simliar tires but the dunlops are cheaper? http://www.seccs.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=761

I have the LM-22's and I'll agree they're a little overpriced.... the tread looks near identicle to the M2s.

I have the M2's and so does Art, since Scott has the Blizzak's, you can compare the two at the next meet if you like. But I would agree, LM22 Blizzaks and Dunlop WS m2's are the way to go.

I have off brand snows and they do just fine. You do have an AWD car. My parents have Toyo Observes on their car and they grip like crazy. I was doing 55-60mph on a dirt road with anywhere from 3" to maybe a foot of snow on it. It was just plowing through, I was very impressed. That was a good time too.

Go with the Bridgestone WS-50's - I've run them for 2 seasons up at the lake. The LM-22's don't work so well; a friend has them on his S4 after using MZ-02 Blizzak's the past 2 winters, and hates them (having driven the car with the LM-22's, I concur). The only other tire I would suggest is a Hakka 2 or Hakka Q. Stay away from the Dunlop's - very disappointing tire on ice.

I am very confident in the Winter Sport Dunlops. I had heard that their old Graspic line was a nightmare on Ice, but the Dunlop's on the Wagon, and now the ones on the STI do great on ice. Personally, I have heard that the Blizzak WS50 is unfit for dry driving, so its the last tire I would put on a WRX or Evo. Lm-22 yes...ws 50 =No.
The amount of siping (sp?) on the Dunlop is very similar to that of the Blizzak, and like I said, they performed wonderfully last season. So, I'm happy with my Dunlops, and a lot of other owners would agree. Basically New Dunlop Winter Sports > Old Dunlop Graspic, etc. WS 50 is good for full time snow use. but dangerous on dry pavement because of lack of cornering ability.

Well Matt,
When I rode in your car, they felt pretty grippy and i remember it had been sprinkling that night.. but You say they are pretty good in the snow... Judging from your Wagon last winter...

Yeah, I like them, and have quite a bit of confidence in them...
Sergio, remember the off road run we did? the one where you road in my wagon. remember the ford truck? Do you remember what tires were on the car?...thats right, the Dunlops. How icy was that road? Nuff said.

@ Nuff Said.. Thats right.. Well plus the fact that the AWD system in an AUTO is way better than the Manual
