Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.
Default Upcoming AWD Driving Schools

Updates 1/23/04!!!

OK, they are Audi Club events, but IMHO opinion, they are a good deal, and quite well run.

Heck, you might even get unlucky and get me as an instructor...

You need to be an ACNA member, so don't forget to add that to the cost.

Info for the first two is here: http://www.audiclubgoldengate.org/

The first One at Thunderhill(45 minutes north of Sac.) 1/10-11 conflicts with the SCCA convention, but I will be there... This is a great track to learn at.

Next one is Laguna Seca 1/31-2/1. Be aware that this event may give priority to Audis since the number of cars is limited by the site. This track isn't quite as forgiving, but is still a good place to learn.

Canceled 1/23/04!!! Last for now is Pahrump, NV April 24-25. This is another great learning track. Very visual... http://ronalusa.com/driving/

Canceled 1/23/04!!! Oh, March 12-14 at Arizona Motorsports Park, Phoenix, AZ. I don't think I'm going to make this one, but might try..

Let me know if you have any questions...

On these courses....do we use our own cars? Or do we drive a audi? (Stupid question probably).

I might want to make the one in April or March.

BYOC... Bring Your Own Car... There is usually room for non-Audis, with the possible exception of Laguna, but sign up and they will tell you if they don't have room.

One of the points of these courses is to get you comfortable in your own car, and understand how it responds.

I think this thread should go to Motorsport event forum....

So Dean - tell us how the Thunderhill event was in your Red WRX?

First, there are spots available still for Laguna Seca at then end of the month!!! Really great track, and small run groups...

The Red Rex performed quite well considering it's basically stock configuration and 3+ year old Perreli's.

Only adjusting tire pressure, I was able to get it fairly nuetral. The inside tires are very vocal so they were singing much of the way around the track.

While I did get passed more than usual in the stealth, there were a number of S4s and the like that were very surprised to see a WRX looming in their rear view mirrors and then disappearing after allowing it to pass.

My passenger seat was constantly full as well with people interested in a ride.

The event overall was very good. We had a 1 to 1 sudent to instructor ratio which was really good for everyone.

Friday was an Open track day for instructors as well as classroom time for people wanting to become instructors. It was rainy most of the day, so AWD was a great advantage.

Saturday was only slightly coudy and was our typical classroom time and paddock exercises for novices & intermediates in the morning while instructors and advanced students lapped and ran the exercises, followed by an afternoon of lapping for all.

Sunday was beautiful and laping for all.

I think I put over 100 track miles per day on the WRX and it performed almost flawlesly except the stock brake pads!

I had put the stockers back in for some reason a while back, and they began to fade almost imediately.

I strongly reccomend swaping out your front pads at minimum for some EBC greens or the like. I swapped them back in and fade was imediately gone and I could almost stand the car on it's nose... The EBCs are usually in stock at Tire Rack in Sparks.

I will need to bleed the brakes and probably put in some Ford/Motorcraft Heavy Duty Fluid before Laguna. This fluid is by far the choice for those who don't mind flushing their brake system between events, which is a good idea anyway. High dry boiling point and very inexpensive.

As an instructor, I didn't really get a chance to take any pictures except of the sunrise over turn 2...

Well, I'm now an official Audi Club member, and I'll register for Pahrump this weekend. I'm really looking forward to some track time., Its right around the corner.

Speaking of Audi events, here's Dean from T-Hill!

Go Dean!

So Dean, were you an industrial strength mildew remover at the track?

OK, Scott, where did you find these? I checked the professional site that was out taking pictures, and they don't even have thumbnails...

And Debbie, yes, you are when you are pulling into the pits... :-}
