Matt, we've got some JDM tumbler valve deletes at the shop

Oh, and, news flash, my little jaunt back down from Reno signified the end of my EJ25, as it's got a terminal rod knock

So we're building up another NA 2.5 with JDM-spec heads and a little extra hot sauce, to hold me over until I can do the real swap right

Sweet Aaron! That's not such a bad thing...A hassle maybe, but your car will run much better...

JDM Tumble Deletes? I'm interested...What is the install like? It's gotta be pretty easy...I'm planning on coming down to check out the new shop before too long...So maybe I'll grab it then...

In other news...I fixed (for now) My clunking rear strut...Took it apart, lubed and cleaned it, and reassembled it with the impact gun on "hi-heat "...it sounds good now.

No worries. It's costing me very little considering (less than when I had HG's replaced at the dealer for $2300) and it'll keep the wagon rolling with decent power (mebbe close to 200 at the crank when it's all done) until I get the money and find a perfect donor vehicle

Haha, nice
Yep, some JDM ones. Install's a little involved, and the big problem is that you'll probably still throw CEL's at this point; it's unsure whether ECUTek will be able to bypass that. So it may not be a good option until you're going crazy with the car (standalone management). Ask Nate the nxt time you're down, he knows better than I

At least Scott and I work the same shift, so we'll just use his car instead of my car while it's getting built; shouldn't take too long to get it rehabilitated, though. The BattleWagon will rise again, victorious!

Nate and I discussed this at length last year while I was planning out my motor build/swap. I ended up buying a US WRX manifold instead of a JDM STi one because EcuTek won't cure the debilitating TGV CEL. No TGV sensors, no getting out of safe mode.

So how long did it take for Subaru to fix the prob? I get a call from my wife at work last night and she says that as she is trying to leave the CEL comes on and the cruise control light starts blinking. I told her to drive it home mellowly. Is it okay to drive with the CEL on and the cruise light blinking? I figure it's a limp mode thing but I'm new to Sube's so... So supposedly you had a "Tumbler Valve" go bad? Is that next to the "Flux Capacitor?" ...jk. It's little crap like this that makes it nice to have a warranty.

I have a little over 6K miles on mine. Drove the car to the dealer today and it drove fine but the CEL is still on and the cruise control light is blinking still. Supposed to find out Monday...

Actually....Turns out the Tumbler valve hasn't failed, It just failed to operate properly (one time) causing the engine to go to safe mode... They want to replace the part, it hasn;t come in yet, but they just reset the CEL and sent me on my way, I haven't had an issue yet. The dealer told me that temperature changes can cause this to happen, where hte valve doesn't work right...Not a big deal.

Well Subaru has no clue what's up with my STi. They said they are calling any and all Subaru dealers to see if they can figure it out. The one thing they do know is that the car is running too lean. They're not sure what the blinking cruise control light means and they figure the CEL is due to the lean condition. Who knows...

Blinking cruise=safe mode. You aren't making peak boost, right?

Problem solved...some vacumn line on the intake manifold had come loose which was causing the lean out and the CEL light. phewww!

I dropped the STi off at Lithia today to get the weird noise fixed. I rev'd up to engine and made it do the whining sound, and the service guy says, "it sounds like you power steering fluid is low." I promply popped open the hood and showed him to full container.

At least I didn't poop the hood.

Car update. Ray called me and said that one of the barings down by my idler is bad. My car is out of commission until Wednesday.
But on the upside I'm getting a rental car, maybe I'll get a Legacy GT.

Is that a manufacturing defect, or wear & tear problem? At least its covered under warranty, right?

Not sure whether it's a manufacturing defect, or wear & tear problem. I'd guess its a freak manufacturing defect. Yes, it is covered under warranty.

I talked to Ray today also, my tumbler valve replacement is in, but I'm not going to get it in to Lithia until I get back from vacation, so Nov 16. He said that it probably won't act up again as-is, but it would be wise to have it swapped out while under warranty...I guess it's pretty pricey to do later on...I couldn't agree more...

Yeah it's too bad our Subaru dealer isn't like the Infiniti dealer I used to deal with in Vegas; car goes in shop they give you a loaner till it's done and when you get your car back it has been washed and vacumned and they always leave a rose on the seat for my mom (she'll never buy from any other dealer, they've spoiled her). Wouldn't it be nice? Subaru needs to come out with a higher end brand like Infiniti and Lexus are to Nissan and Toyota.
