Also I heard King Kong was excellent. 2 thumbs up or something. Let us go live a cinematic adventure!

Sounds like that's the plan! Let's meet near the top of the parking garage like usual at say 7pm. If you're going to be late, call someone and get them to hold you a seat... Tyson, I'll save you one.

It will be colder than I don't know what up there, and last time we were there, you couldn't go past the 5th or 6th floor I think. I vote for the nice heated lobby about 5-10 after. first 2 out of 3 to show up go in and score a whole row or two partials...

I will subscribe to this idea...I'll be inside at 7:00 to 7:10 in the lobby, too cold waiting around in the garage,...

Tyson, I have something to give you, are you coming tonight?

Agreed, that movie was intense... I could have done without the frozen pond scene, but overall , that kicked ass.

I liked it, 'cept Peter Jackson needs to learn how to let his editor do his job. The movie could have done with about half as much monkey on chick sexual tension... I was creeped out.

LOL, I didn't even know you guys were gonna be there. That was Maria, a woman I work with. She's pretty hot I guess. We just started hanging out since we both don't know too many people in town...she liked it too, but also thought the Gorilla on girl action was a bit odd.

It's funny that Matt mentions the frozen pond scene...that was the only part of the movie that startled me enough to make me yell "shit"...but I guess I should have seen that coming. I could have done without seeing all the Brontosauri (or whatever those giant plant eating dinasours are called) toppeling over eachother and getting crushed to death...for some reason that bothered me more than the end of the movie...

Yah, I noticed that...at around midnight last night.

Next time whisper just loud enough for me to hear, "Hey, that's the guy that can't keep his car on the track," and point and laugh.

Somebody mentioned this last night, but Ithink it is the best action adventure I have seen in years. There are about 45 minutes to an hour in the middle where it is non-stop... Intense.

What's wrong with a little Monkey business on ice? OK, it was a bit sappy, but a good excuse for some more cool CGI physics demonstrations... I think of it as a little pause in the action to let you catch your breath. Kinda like the seen on the island with the sunset.

Exceptionally well done IMHO. Well worth full price on a big screen, and the 3 hours!

That movie helped me realize my next goal in life. I need to kill a T-Rex with my bare hands. Then I'll score a hot blonde like Naomi Watts.

Nothing has yet to match the scene in the orignal Matrix movie where they shoot up the lobby of that building through to the daring rescue/escape by crashing helicopter. The first time I saw that I was litterally speechless.

I felt the action sequences in KK were great, but a little gratuitous... the brontasauri Cody mentioned are a prime example. Sure it was exciting, but after seeing say 5 "OMG he almost got stepped on!" moments, the next 20 aren't intense, and only expose the flaws in the CGI to live action mixing. Graphics are good these days, but if the plot doesn't keep my disbeliefe suspended it's easy to see the flaws in the CGI. About half way through the stampeed I was telling myself "ok, this is the part of the movie where they run from dinosaurs, I got it... next please."

On the other hand, I was extremely impressed with the animation of Kong. *Very* well done... they took everything that the Hulk did wrong (which was everything) and make it right. I'd say the song and dance routine in front of Kong scene was actually better than the Golumn argues with himself scene from LOTR2, which IMO was the reigning champion for CGI character acting. I was also very impressed by the 1930's NYC scenes... both in the live action set design early on and the Empire State Building finally. The CGI work there was impeccible.

But once again, I can't get over the creepy feeling that the Kong/Anne relationship gave me. Maybe I have a sick mind, but I can't help but describe their interaction as anything but sexual tension. Kong didn't seem to want a pet-master relationship, and Anne wasn't all PETA "save the apes" for Kong... as far as I could tell, if it were physically possible they would gotten it on. *shudder*

Love can exist without lust, but as I said, I agree, the love scenes, at times, were too drawn out and did get a little wierd since she did look like she was waiting to be kissed a couple times.

I agree, but that was many years ago now.

In an action adventure, it is often a requiment to supend your belief in physics, common sense, etc. This movie had great action, continuity, and even a bit of a story and made me want to accept these flaws in contrast to some of the more recent action for action's sake movies that ended up being comedies as much as action adventure without intending to.

Kill Bill comes to mind as the most recent effort to come close to keeping me on the edge of my seat as much as Kong did.

The dinosaur chase scene wasn't so much a problem due to the physics... it was simply too long. Like I said, after watching the main characters almost get stepped on and survive a few times, seeing it another 10 times does nothing for the plot. Instead of sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time, after a while I was just watching to see how they did the effects... which is something I shouldn't be doing until I watch the DVD special features.

About halfway through I was watching the scene while ignoring the CGI and realizing how dumb the actors must have looked running down a blue-screened hallway dodging imaginary dinosaur feet. And by the end, the dino-pile *was* comedic, though it was intentional... I was unfortunately laughing not because the scene was funny, but because it was too absurd. It would have been better if they hadn't gone quite so over the top.

The same can be said for the bug canyon scene. The bugs were too big... I t would have been far creepier if they had been only slightly larger than real bugs. A violent grasshopper as big as they were in the movie would tear your face off in a second, since bugs have emmence strength for their size. Plus that scene suffered from being too long as well... once again leaving me ignoring the CGI and imagining the actors w/o the graphics.

Of course, I am nit-picking a bit... the movie was much better than most the garbage coming out of hollywood.
