You guys that are planning to run most or all of the season wouldn't be too disadvantaged much by starting in your expected class. Remember that only 4 events from Novice can transfer over to your actual class, so I'd plan on being there at event 5 anyway. After 4 full days you should have a much better handle on what's going on, but even a full year in novice probably won't quite get you up with the leaders of your particular class. Rememvber, they're getting a full season better by the end of the year too.

The biggest advantage of novice is you can run twice a day every event, and/or run whichever half of the day works for you.

You are also very likely to get coaching of some form from the old farts like me.

Yes, you can move points and run a real class if you choose, but then you gots to play by the rules.

I forgot about that! But I would still strongly encourage everyone to play by some class' rules right from the start, because it sucks being just barely out of a class you'd be competitive in.

The only reasons to run in a normal class of any form is for bragging rights, or a year end trophy of some form.

Otherwise, come out, have fun, learn to drive better, and run novice, or RNP, and figure out if you want to be more serious about it at which point you can get buried in the minutia of the rule book.

^^^ Exactly! I really just want more time behind the wheel, and to have some FUN! I'm really not too terribly concerned with points and trophies and such, it'd be cool, but I specifically just want to enjoy the fruits of my hard earned money that's sitting under my car!

Forgot to come back and add this- Street Touring specifically bars removing an airbag-equipped wheel, Street Prepared specifically allows it.
