That's disturbing, albeit unsurprising. But most of the $B's were spent on other aspects of preparedness besides the Tamiflu.

Looks like Mexico is backing off the reported number of deaths from Swine Flu:
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmem...the_number.php

But here's a public health expert's opinion on why it could be bad even if it is just a "mild" flu:

Apparently it only kills Mexicans.

For the most part anyway. We have had two fatalities.

Quote:
Swine flu, also known as H1N1, has been confirmed by laboratory tests in 1,516 patients in 22 countries, according to the WHO. Mexico has reported 942 cases, including 29 deaths, while the U.S. has 403 cases and two deaths, officials in those countries said. Canada has 165 cases.

My conspiracy theory: Obama's plan to scare everyone, then it will be easy as hell for him to get his universal health care bills put through in a hurry.

This isn't really directed at WRXlerate... that joke is actually somewhat funny...

...but are the Obama bashers worse than the Bush bashers were? I mean, it took years of failed foreign policy, illegal war, torture, stripping of Constitutional right, etc, etc, etc before people started to immediately bash anything he did regardless of its actual merit.

But Obama does anything and it's immediately part of some big communist take over plan to make America his own personal playground for some sinister plan.

I'm not saying Bush bashers weren't unfairly bashing him at times, or that Obama bashers aren't sometimes right... but it seems like Obama's detractors give it to the guy (who has a 70% approval rating 100 days in) the way Bush detractors gave it to Bush midway through year 7 when he had a 15% approval rating.

Frankly, Obama's done nothing even remotely on the level to hurt America the way the neo-cons totally screwed up the Persian Gulf and our rights post-9/11. Not even the huge waste of taxpayer money on the bad idea bail-out comes close to the mess Bush made of Iraq.

/rant (and yet another thread falls into the mire of politics... go me!)

I started bashing Bush right after the Supreme Court appointed him pResident. He lost the popular vote if you recall, and if the Florida ballets had been properly counted he prolly would have lost the election, but Catherine Harris and the Court made sure that didn't happen and Gore caved. Not a Gore fan at all, but still...

Oh, and just for the record, I didn't vote for Obama or Bush.

Back the topic at hand, I hope they are blowing this swine flu out of proportion, just like they did the bird flu. I have such wonderful luck, I would get it right after they run out of the vaccine.
However, I do find it amusing that mexico is getting extremely offended by the whole ordeal. I can't imagine how many thousands of $$ they've lost because it seems to have originated there. A friend of mine had a cruise booked in advance to go down the coast into mexico and stop in various ports, once this hit the news they routed the cruise up north to the Seattle area instead.

Three on-air GOP mouthpieces even attacked him for wanting "spicy" or "Dijon" mustard on his cheesburger. What pathetic douchebags.

Am I the only one that thinks Obama is getting trashed because he is black?

... or Muslim.

Looks like the flu is winding down, huh? Hopefully it just disappears. But it has spread all over the world and can mutate from anywhere and respread. There were 3 waves of flu in 1918 and the first one in the spring was mild.

Probably because half of the world stopped buying pork!! Hahaha! Don't be surprised if it gets cheaper yet, you'll start to see it on special at all of the stores.

That is f'ing ridiculous. Take advantage of people's ignorance and buy it up cheap and help out the hog farmers who are unjustly getting screwed right now. Pork chops, pork loin, carnitas FTW.

New England Journal of Medicine:

" Although it has been just over a month since the first cases were identified, it seems unlikely that this outbreak will lead to widespread, severe illness and deaths. However, this may be just the first wave, and we will carefully monitor this outbreak. "

Billinghurst Middle School sent notes home to us parents today stating that there has been a confirmed case of H1N1 "swine flu" at the school.
