Good way to wear out your tires too. I used to make that drive in my STi, and it killed my tires pretty quick.

this may be true, but this is my first Subaru...my previous car was a '93 Toyota MR2, so the handling is quite different in this big Scoobie (and yes, big is the term i use because the MR2 was so damn small) so i need to get to know it better...if that costs me a set of tires, meh...no biggie. There are a lot more expensive things to wear out on a car than tires.

That being said, when I finally meet you face to face, I will tell you my best time coming down that road. From the top of Daggett Pass to the Stop sign.

Oh yeah, one more thing. The worst I ever did going up that hill at 3am in the morning, was I used up about 5/8ths of a tank of gas. LOL.

Personally I recommend not trying to match times of an STi in a WRX on RE92s.

RE92s will last a good while as long as they're not attached to the car when it goes flying off the road.

i honestly dont know what my best time is. Every time i drive home from work, there is always someone on the road all freaked out about the hairpin and doing about 20 mph through it. its a bit frustrating, but my downhills are definitely faster than my uphills. I think i am going to start lightening the car up for faster downhills.

faster uphill is much easier on your tires and brakes...but then again it sounds like you really dont care.

also much safer IMO because you have gravity helping you slow down but then again I don't like to go balls out on roads like that.

i think i have driven on that road more than any other in my life, whether it was riding with a family member or driving it myself. By no means am i a master of it per se, but i feel comfortable going fast either uphill or downhill on that road. but you are right, and i have been thinking about it. Uphill would probably be the best choice for this car. The downhill suited the MR2 much more honestly because it was already lightweight and the weight balance of the car was such that it did not put as much stress on the front brakes as the WRX does.

Here is another word of advice, those two >25mph turns on the Basin side are not doable at 60mph. Even in my STi. LOL!!!!!

The obvious safety issues aside (or perhaps due to them), I don't know if a public forum is a good place to discuss something like this. . .

Yup, and bring your snow parka.
