Thanks for the payment jerry...Also, very good points, a high performance driving school is one of the best ways to build your driving skill, and it's pretty much about YOUR driving, you're not out to impress anyone... see ya out there....

Good thing Lowball told me about this thread. I don't think anyone ever updated the original thread where you guys proposed this event (or I just missed the notification email).

Sorry for the delay with updates, been busy running in the Reno NORPAC Divisional AutoX!

We were able to scrape together enought cash for the deposit! Thanks to all the people that chipped in to make it happen!

I'm over at Dean's house watching Rally right now, I'll update the thread tomorrow morning with more info.

w00t!
I'll be taking my WRX there instead. There's no bolster on the Legacy seat at all. It'd be fun the first few laps out with all the new power, but then I'd just get pissed that I'm sliding around inside the car.

Besides, I think I'll keep my warranty for now

Oh, and by the way, I'm in, Paid Matt yesterday.
I didn't have time to call ET (big stuff going on here at work... more on that later), can you call her about the track day and instructors, etc, and coordinate with Matt as far as droping off the deposit?

Also, IIRC The Next Level will waive/reduce the fees if you act as an instructor, and I think we'd all benefit from having out out there as an instructor instead of just participating.

There's been some concern raised regarding the "relay race" portion of the track school. (FYI: the plan is to run a "qualifying" session where drivers are timed, then grouped into small evenly matched relay teams based on the drivers qualifying times. Then in the relay race session, each driver will run a timed lap that will be added to the rest of their team members. Trophies for the best team will be awarded.)

We believe that there are still a few people out there who have insurance companies that will cover an incident at a driving school as long as there is no timing/competition in place. Although my insurance (and I believe most people in NV... Art back me up?) doesn't cover me timing or not, there are some people in CA that might lose insurance coverage if there is a timed portion of the school.

Another concern is that adding the qualifying and relay sessions will cause people to potentially push too hard because they're trying to beat the clock and/or help their team. The rep from the driving school has assured us that this is a normal part of their school and they've never had a problem with people over-driving due to the competition aspect of the sessions. However, the fact is, this will be at the end of the day when people are tired, and there is concern that some people won't know when to say when and may push themselves too hard.

The alternative to the relay sessions would be additional open track time. This would mean more track time for everyone, since the relay sessions will probably be only 1 or 2 cars on course at a time, not everyone at once.

I'd like to hear people's opinions on this situation. Would you like to go ahead with the timed portions of the event, or simply get more open track time? This is not a vote, but those of us planning the event would like your opinions!

Also... there are still several of you that haven't yet paid for the event. Please, if you've got the cash, pay for the event as soon as you can!

Finally, we still need another 10 people (or so) to reach our goal of 30 participants. If we don't get the 30 people, we'll not only be short on money for the track rental, we will probably end up having to open the event to the public which will reduce our track time. If you know anyone that might be interested, please lean on them a bit! Also, we could use help advertizing on I-Club and NASIOC... I'm sure there's plenty of Bay Area people that don't know about the event yet!

T-minus 39 days and counting!

I think the time-attack thing pretty much guarantees no insurance coverage for the event for any of us. I vote for more open track time. We get maybe 2 laps with the relay race, and an extra 20 minutes or so with the open track. No brainer.

It's not a vote... plus, your opinion counts more if you paid for the event.

That said, I think I'm leaning towards agreeing with you.

I always end up running only 1/3 or so of the open track session at the end of the day anyway, so it'd be more fun running a time trial. Make it different than the usual track days.
