Well...Looks like BAR is blisteringly fast as pre-season testing continues. (I'm secretly pulling for BAR to kick ass this year) As they develop the new car, it's looking possible that this could be their breakout year.

Also, Motorcycle Ace Valentino Rossi took the Ferrari on the track and spun out on his first lap, not such a great start.

Today's times:

Pos Driver Team Tyres Time Laps
1. Barrichello Honda (M) 1.19.359 59
2. Davidson Honda (M) 1.19.996 63
3. M.Schumacher Ferrari (B) 1.20.358 87
4. Raikkonen McLaren-Mercedes (M) 1.21.194 24
5. Webber Williams-Cosworth (B) 1.22.388 77
6. Klien Red Bull-Ferrari (M) 1.22.599 42
7. Paffett McLaren-Mercedes (M) 1.23.836 42
8. Rosberg Williams-Cosworth (B) 1.23.936 75
9. Rossi Ferrari (B) No time 0

Looks to me like Eccelstone said "You can compete in 2006 if...." and put in on the Calendar. Then Spa had to finally admit they couldn't meet Eccelstone's ultimatum and had to pull out

Luckily it looks set to be back in 2007.

Yeah, I was reading that Massa is pissed because supposedly his motor took a crap at the end of the Bahrain Race. He did finish the event, but given the 2 race engine rule, he is -10 spots on the starting grid going into the weekend.

David Coulthard is in the same boat with his Ferrari engine. It expired on the cool down lap last weekend, so the FIA says that both cars made engine change between events, so they're penalized. I think they'd have been better off to blow up during the race and go on with no penalty.

For 2007, not 2006, but the Japanese GP is moving to Fuji.

No more Suzuka (maybe)

http://www.crash.net/news_View~t~Off...~id~127149.htm

Quote:
The Japanese Grand Prix will move to the Fuji International Speedway next year.

Official confirmation came on Friday, after months of rumours, which intensified at the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix earlier this month. The circuit, which is owned by Toyota, put out an announcement that they have reached an agreement with Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One Administration Limited, which will see it become the venue for the Japanese GP from 2007.

"We, at FOA, have the pleasure that Fuji Speedway, as the brand new venue nestled at the foot of the most majestic Mt. Fuji, will be the new home of Japanese F1 Grand Prix," said Ecclectone. "We also have a good expectation that the F1 event there would be the opening of new era of Formula One history."

Since the commemoration of the opening of the Fuji circuit nearly 40 years ago in 1966, it has staged numerous international and domestic car races of sport cars, grand touring cars, and formula cars. Fuji Speedway was also used to host the first and second Japanese F1 Grand's Prix in 1976 and 1977. The 2007 Japanese F1 GP will mark the thirty year anniversary.

In 2005 Fuji Speedway completed its overall renovation of the international racecourse and related facilities - which was rumoured to cost in the region of $150 million. When opening the revamped circuit, Fuji became certified to hold F1 races since it earned a 'Grade 1' license from the FIA, the sports governing body.

Where this leaves Suzuka meanwhile, which incidentally is owned by Toyota's arch rival, Honda and which has hosted the Japanese GP every year since 1987, is unknown, although some reports suggest it may still hold a grand prix next year, possibly re-badged as the Asian or Pacific GP.

Time will tell...
