It's a good idea... in fact, as it is, I don't know how you're not spraying coolant all over the place as the car heats up!

On my car, I'll go from an empty catchcan to about 0.5" to 1" of coolant in it after romping around. As the car cools down, the reserve is sucked back into the system as the pressure drops. How's your car plumbed right now that it doesn't leak? Is your overflow just capped off?

Wait, these things aren't air cooled?!

It's not capped off, but it doesn't appear to overflow? Maybe I'm just low on coolant? The only time I ever noticed the temp guage go above normal was at RFR when it was over 100 (even then, I don't remember seeing any coolant on the ground). I just attributed the higher temp do to the temp outside and the FMIC blocking airflow. I am installing some new crucial items that should help, but it does make me wonder about how much coolant is in the system.

3.3.3.B.7 has your answer I think Nick. It says Prepared and Modified cars need a 1 quart tank, but they probably expect only those cars to have the OE one removed. So, you have to have something, but even the old Windex bottle will pass as long as there's little chance of leaks before it gets there. And definitely check your coolant level, I'm sure you're low now.

Also, if the tube to your catch tank doesn't go all the way to the bottom, then your system won't syphon the overflow back into the system when it cools down. But that just means that next time you reach that temp, it won't overflow again. That's why you never noticed any overflow spillage- it only happened once and you missed it then. On the dyno maybe?

After reading over the stock/ street touring/ street prepared sections of the rule book i'm a bit more confused then before ever reading it .

Stock Class : Any other modifications or equipment will place the car in Street Touring, Street Prepared, Street Modified, Prepared or Modified Categories as appropriate.

Street Touring : 14.4 WHEELS
A. Any wheels up to 7.5" in width that fit over stock brakes.

So is a Stock STI in Street prepared ? if i have RE070's and that's stock will i still get a "T" designation in front (of SP ) so TSP ? (sounds like all the 1st timers are in novice no matter what) but i certainly would like to know what my classing would be if i was not automatically novice designation (and i fully belive i belong in novice just wondering):
Again i have a 2005 STI , Minus my K&N short ram air intake its Bone Stock . what class would i be in with out the k&N (sp becuase of equipment ? the rims are 8" from the factory"

I looked at the weather for the rest of the week, looks like ran / snow through the weekend. So, the coolant on the ground shouldn't be an issue if its raining. LOL.

Try reading the rules again. Your stock wheels are of course allowed in stock. So there's no reason to try to apply the ST wheel rules to your car, unless you've got other mods that bump you into ST or SP.

Second, STI's are not legal in STS, which has the 7.5" wheel width limitation. Because of the STI's displacement, it's a STU car, which can run 8" width wheels (if not larger, I don't remember the rules for STU).

Third, "SP" isn't a class. The STI is in BSP, or "B Street Prepared". There are multiple classes for each level: ASP, BSP, CSP, etc. Just like there are multiple stock classes: AS, BS, CS, etc. Just like there are multiple Street Touring classes: STS, STX, STU, etc.

And yes, the rules are confusing. One thing that may help is to realise that it used to be basically 4 levels: Stock, Street Prepared, Prepared, Modified. Then they added Street Touring and Street Modified to try and get participation from the street tuner type cars. So you used to simply travel up the line as you moded the car, Stock -> Street Prepared -> Prepared -> Modified. Today you have more choices: Stock -> Street Prepared or Street Touring -> Prepared or Street Modified -> Modified. There is overlap between the different levels.

In general terms, here are the classes the STI is legal in, depending on mods:

Stock: AS or TAS
Street Prepared: BSP or TBSP
Street Touring: STU
Street Modified: SM or TSM

I'm not sure what class it ended up in for Prepared or Modified, but my car isn't even to that level yet, so you won't have to worry.

+1 on confusing rules. No wheel width limitations in STU, but AWD cars are limited to 245 width tires.

Dude, I'm scared to drive my own car... I don't think I've got the nerves to let someone else drive it. I have nightmares that it blows up the 1st time I race it like last season.

The TSM class is bigger by two: a Mustang and a WS6 Fireturkey.

Looks like I am going to try Novice and Stock (not sure the class of stock yet). I will have to get the class or my engine displacement.

Were they out this past weekend? I recall overhearing a little rivalry between a WS6 driver and someone in a mustang.

I recall one of the mustang drivers saying he had a 67 on the forward course (stands out in my mind cuase it was one of the few times slower then mine) probably different mustangs though
