Personally, I have trouble making it to Tamarak by 6 most nights, and its 5 minutes from my work. Maybe 6:30 would work, but its open for discussion really.

Woody's was good fun, and not a pain in the ass to get to. Being easily accessible from the Freeway and from McCarran is good.

Yeah, I'd like to see future meets there until we wear it out in a couple years, and spend another 2 years looking for a new place.

Couldn't make it, clearly...

To randomly throw in my 2 cents tho, I'm in favor of moving meets back to 7. Gives more time to get off work, get a shower, and head down.

Well you guys go to more meets than I so your votes should have more weight, obviously. And I guess 6:30 or 7 isn't actually that bad. I can always read until some others show up.

I thought it was pretty good and fairly convenient. I'd vote to move there.

I think on timing, maybe 6:30 is the parking lot time, and 7:00 is the we will be inside at or before time?

The problem with saying the meet starts at 7:00 during the summer is we don't eat until 8:00 which is a tad late IMHO, but I am old and used to the 4:30 Denney's Senior Specials.

That has been the nice thing about 6:00, eating at a reasonable hour.

Is it is time for a change if 7 people showed up last night at Woody's and this may be the second week in a row of no Thurs. meet.

Is a change in location enough, or should it be a change of day as well?

New poll added to this thread.

I like Thursday's because it kind of kicks off the weekend early.

I voted 6pm at Woody's on Tuesdays. I don't feel strongly about Tuesday over Thursday, but thought it might break the week up better.

I'm still in too bad of a mood on Tuesdays. Thursdays are my favorite meet night..but I think 6:30 will make it easier for some, I like Dean's idea...6:30 and inside by 7... love me some woody's.

I bet if we took the time to plan each meet the way the test meet was planned, you'd get a bunch of people every time, so I don't really see that as evidence for change. Personally, I'm not tired of Sully's. They've got a great parking lot, decent menu and prices, and Michelle does a great job taking care if us. It's really been the best place we've met at since the 4th Turn closed.

However, if the distance really is a problem for a bunch of people, I'm not opposed to moving the meet. I just want to point out that a month or two into a new location the novelty will wear off and we'll likely be back down to the same few number of people attending, so let's make sure to pick a place that is on par with Sully's as far as features. Moving to get more people to show up isn't a good enough reason to move it unless the location is going to draw more folks for more than just a few weeks.

That said, if you guys like Woody's it sounds like a decent place to go. But I'd definately push for going back to 7pm just to be able to get over there after work, though Dean's idea about 6:30 parking lot, 7:00 food is pretty decent, except that if only 1 or 2 people show they have to wait 30 minutes before they know if anyone else is comming.

The point of the meets isn't to eat at the perfect sports bar, it's to hang out with people from the forum. Clearly, Sully's isn't working for a lot of people anymore, either because of location, food, or whatever. Woody's may not solve the issue permanently, but it seems that it will improve, even if it is just for a year or two, or less.

What's funny is that other than Tyson, I think everyone that showed up on Wednesday came from NW and drove just as far as it is to Tamarack Junction, or came from South Meadows.

It's actually a little more than 6 miles closer than tamarack, according to google maps.

I think you completely missed my point, which is, if 4 people are going to show up either way, I'd rather be at the place where we get free drinks.

Like I said: "Moving to get more people to show up isn't a good enough reason to move it unless the location is going to draw more folks for more than just a few weeks."

What I haven't seen is any evidence that the other places talked up as alternatives to Tamarak can or will draw a permanently larger crowd. The real problem of course is that coming up with that evidence is impossible short of just moving the meets there, which is why we're all just speculating and why I'm making a point to remind people about the qualities of the place we're already at that are good, because I get a significant "the grass is greener" feeling from everyone.

What I'd like to see is a bunch of people that normally don't come to the meets saying "if the meet was at Woody's, I'd totally come like 3 times a month easily". I haven't seen anyone actually say that... what I'm hearing mostly is from people that are relatively busy folks saying that they might be able to come more often if it were moved. But "more often" from 3 times a year may not really be all that much.

Again, I'm not really opposed to moving the meet. Woody's sounds like a pretty decent location. I just want to make sure you guys are sure about doing it before we give Michelle a $150/mo pay cut.

My point was simply that hardly anybody shows up for meets anymore regularly. I am not sure exactly why and I won't comment on that. But everybody that was at Woody's this week agreed that they'd prefer to go there. So maybe it won't work, but signs so far are encouraging.

Give me Woody or give me death!
<twss>

I have been to like 2 regular meets in the last year, but I have been to 2 test meets in the last month. Just for me personally, I would like something a little more "central", ie. something closer.

Couple comments:
Woody's test meet was very old skool [sic]. All who were there were people I met at that first meet I stumbled upon 4-5 years ago. Whereas C&C meet had some new blood (2 brand new and 3+ old skool fwiw).

I hesitate to even post this, but want to be clear. This is not a battle between Scott and I over location and don't want it to be taken as such.

I started this thread long ago in response to Scott's comments in the main meet thread. The theory was to find something a little more central (at least inside the loop), not just throw out wild ideas every few posts.

I am not on a one man crusade to make a change, just someone who was willing to take the lead on a project for the good of the club.

In addition to those comments in the main thread, I had heard a number of comments from folks in the North Valleys about the length of drive to Tamarack and another member who had other obligations on Thursdays.

I like the Tamarack and Michelle and certainly wish her no ill will. At the same time, both have, at times, left something to be desired.

Woody's is not really my first choice, but it is the first option that has met with a resounding lack of negativism. That does not make it an ideal location, but at least an option. They did give us free drink cards and a free meal after X paid ones card when we were in on Wed. Or Tues. for some.

Again, I added the poll to the thread to gather information, not stage a coup of any form. It is clearly not binding or anything other than the opinions of the whopping 16 people who have responded.

Maybe we should have another test meet at Woody's on a Tuesday or something.

All that said, we have tried other locations and moved on or back in the past. Nothing prevents us from doing so again.

Dean, just in case you thought I was directing my comments towards you specifically, I was not. I'm all for discussion about this, and I appreciate someone other than me (or MattR) taking the point on searching for a new spot as it's been in the past for the most part.

The only thing that's a little odd is that by the time people start talking about wanting to move the meet, I've already been thinking about it for weeks. This time, I'm not really bothered or bored with the current location yet.

Thanks, I did not take it that way, and wanted to make sure others were not.

MattR does get credit for Woody's though, so not sure I really accomplished much over the past 9 months.

I agree with you that there is nothing really wrong with Tamarack. If there was, I'm sure we would have had a lot more search effort. Woody's is a couple miles closer for me, but nothing to get excited about.

If we do switch, we may get a burst of enthusiasm, and then with daylight savings, warmer weather and the start of Solo, more participation in general that might happen anywhere we meet.

I too would like to see more posts from folks saying a move would cause them to come 1 or more times more per month than they have recently. Maybe another poll to that effect would be in order?

Me too, the only thing I don't like about Tamarack is the 32.8 mile round trip drive.

I feel like Alex... Resurrecting this thread, but it is not old enough to really count.

I was out of town last week, so missed the pool situation at Woody's but will be there tonight to experience it.

Woody's was a graveyard when we went on the Wednesday test meet. Would a day of the week change resolve it, do we try C&C, FR'ers, renew our search or am I suffering from premature meet relocation?
