It's not a big deal until someone (dave) gets defensive about a comment made and then feels the need to get all emo. Then someone else (spam) feels the need to relate his own story about gettin harassed by the po-leez because he rides around with an illegal setup and they are trying to catch him ridin dirty. Nobody in this club cares if you get pulled over, it can happen to anyone. However if you are driving in a group or leaving a meet than its a little different. But what the hell do I know, if you want a cop to start hanging out at your in-n-out meets like they do at circut city, by all means keep not caring. I think the main thing that prompts comments like Scotty's and Bob's is when someone posts about how the cop is some kind of bastard for doing his job. What do you expect when you get pulled over for breaking the law?

Actually Imprezif on here has never gotten a speeding ticket in his 8 years of driving... haha

but yea, i totally agree with you. I feel it is better to be going a little bit faster than traffic to merge if need be. Im not saying 80 is necessary. And some places it's needed like the on ramp at neil going south, since the on ramp goes directly into the freeway lane. I'm not saying what he did was wrong, not saying what he did was right.

No speeding ticket here, not saying that I haven't ever sped before though...

Tell me how it is a big deal? I understand that he's representing a club, and a whole other community of people, but people get pulled over. That's no different, than if somebody had a SECCS sticker on their car, and got pulled over. Now I know that most of the people here are responsible and all that great stuff, but sometimes even responsible, law abiding citizens can get in a hurry to get somewhere maybe cuz you're late or it's an emergency, and then you start going faster and faster without realizing it, or maybe you do. The point I'm getting at is, that it was just a speeding ticket, for doing 15 over. There shouldn't be a big fuss over this. I'll say it. My first speeding ticket was for 20 over. But yet, I was stupid for doing it. But I also was in a rush to get home. I'm just saying that this shouldnt be made into a big ordeal like it was made into. But feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Yea it's amazing isnt it? considering how he drives. haha

But the cool thing is, that I drove him down to San Jose to pick up his fancy 06 STI, and since the car was in his name he had to start a new insurance policy. His insurance went from 230 a month with his bugeye, to 182 a month with his STI. That makes driving carefully worth it.

Wrong thread, but speaking of getting pulled over...

I did something stupid the other day. I got sick of a truck sitting in the left lane on I80 with nobody beside him, so I squirted around him. Just as I got in front of him a motorcycle cop clocked me at 90 (in a 65) and pulled me over. He wrote me a ticket for <10 over. Why? Dunno for sure, but I didn't get mad at him, I didn't try to bullshit him with various excuses that he's heard 1000 times before (example: "I was doing 80 to merge with the flow of traffic"), really didn't say anything except answer his few questions. When he handed me the ticket he says, "I wrote you for 1-10 over. It looked like you were just passing that truck and I know these cars are pretty quick. I also put off your court date until September. Sign here..."

Not bragging in any way whatsoever, but I have gotten a lot of tickets in my life - 25+ would be my guess including a 108/55 for which he just wrote a $100 ticket and let me go. Lots and lots of times pulled over and let go too. My advise:
- Pull over somewhere where it is relatively safe for the cop if possible. Take the exit (like I did and pull off there for example) or pull into a parking lot.
- If it is night turn your dome light on so he can see you and know you are not a risk.
- Keep you hands on the wheel where he can see them (especially at night). Don't go fishing for you wallet and registration until he has asked you. Here again he is in control and can watch you and know you are not a risk. Seriously, these guys never know who they are gonna pull over.
- Be polite and respectful. No need to kiss ass, just be respectful. If you are younger than him that call him "sir" (in moderation - no ass kissing).
- Don't talk except to answer his questions.
- If he asks you, "Do you know why I pulled you over?" and it is obvious why, then fess up, but don't bullshit. Showing some remorse is prolly a good idea. If you really honestly don't know why then just say "no I don't" or if you are younger than him "no sir, I don't".
- Do not bullshit an excuse. He has heard it all before. If you have a real and unique reason then maybe mention it, but usually you are better off keeping your mouth shut unless he asks you directly for a reason, and even then be careful.
- Be mildly remorseful. One time I said, "I know, this is my neighborhood too and I don't like when people speed down my street", and I'm sure that got me off with a warning.
- If you really legitimately feel like he is mistaken and you are wrongly getting pulled over or wrongly getting a ticket, then you *maybe* can mention and *discuss* this with him, but do not get into an heated argument. His mind is probably made up, and if you piss him off he will start checking under you car for catalytic converters, looking for tailights out, missing front license plates, maybe he might see something that would cause him to search you car, or worse. Take it up with the Assistant DA on or before you court date, and plead your case to the judge if you think it is worth it. It probably isn't worth it though.
- Show up for your court date if you can. Very often you can get the ticket reduced. They have a procedure for this and the ADA have little offices right outside the courtroom. They will ask you if you are more worried about the fine or the points (for insurance reasons).

And seriously, if you are at or leaving a club event then be careful or take it easy. Nobody wants to bring heat down on the clubs or meets.

Yea, that's a very good write up Matt.

I've gotten pulled over 5 times, and by doing most of the things you said in there especially the polite things(saying sir), has gotten me out with just a warning the last 3 times in a row. The last time i got pulled over I even told the cop that I had my cruise control set at 70, and he just said, well it's 65 so just please keep the speed down, and have your parents get the right insurance set up in the car. (the insurace card i had in the car was 5 months outdated from the right one). but being polite and honest honest, has gotten me out of 3 ticket's and a revoked license.

The second time I got pulled over it was for failure to yeild to pedestrian, which i fought, and had pictures to back me up, and all i had to do was pay a $60 fine, instead of $140, and no points were added to my record, and my first speeding ticket which was mentioned earlier, I went to traffic school for and also had the points taken off my record.

All in all, the point is, just to drive within the speed limit or atleast close to it, and no shenannigans when leaving a meet, or while in a group.
