Default For those of you with Tein Flex coilovers - Eric, Mike, ?

How do you like them. Are they fairly comfortable as daily drivers.

Tein just came out with the coilover for the '05. I can get them shipped for $1595. Is that a good price for those. They also have the edfc option for an additional $395 shipped, which I would definately opt for.

I really miss my old coilover setup on the wrx so I am kinda jonesin'

Well, I'm not Eric or Mike, but I have ridden in both cars and I really like the way the Tein's perform. They are actually a great coilover for street/autocross and occasional track use...In fact, I think I'm leaning towards them for my car too..

the 1595 may be a little high. i think i paid 1560 for mine. but they cant be beat for the money. mike has the edfc....pretty cool gadget. i dont mind taking my back seat off for adjust mine. anyway i would suggest them to anyone.

one thing i would suggest though would be to reinforce your underbody suspension as well(new sway bars, endlinks, ALK, tower bars if you wish. i think that is where youll find the most gain in correcting body roll and cornering.

The Tein Flex simply cannot be beat for the money. If you get the edfc, you can adjust it to be on the maximum softness for the street... and what's cool about it is, you can have 3 preset levels (kinda like a radio station preset on your stereo).. When it's on the minimum softness, the stiffness is definetly not bad at all. after you drive it for like 2 hours, you wont even know you had coilovers (except when you turn that is)... even on the softest setting, there is a noticable difference from the stock struts. Just FYI... i think i paid 1900 for my coilovers + edfc, installed. hehe

I really like the Tein's

I dont have any experience with other setups so I cant say how they compare to others.

bottom line I guess is after 10,000 miles on them there still in my car.
they seem to handdle hwy 80 well, but watch out for big pot holes.

I know with this setup you will more then likly need new rear endliks, Erics and my car both had rear endlink failure after lowering the car. :?

Thanks for the info everyone. Seems to be a good choice. I've seen the flex's at Gruppe S for less, but then I would have to pay taxes and shipping which would add up to more. Since they are a new design for the '05 mounting, it will probably be tough to find them for less.

I already ordered the ALK. I'm not positive on this one, but I think the '05 has solid end links. I will double check at lunch. I remember Mike showing me the damage that happened to his.

Just the standard disclaimer: The ALK puts you into Modified for autox.... not Street Modified... Modified. Against cars like Greg Benson's corvette powered Z. So if you plan to run in autocross... keep that in mind. That's why my ALK is in a plastic bag in my garage.

Along with your corvette engine?

Thanks for the heads up. With my schedule with kids, my autocrossing ability on weekends will be extremely limited, probably to the point of rarely. So for the fun factor I think I am just going for it. If that changes I'll keep my stock unit in a bag in my garage just in case.

I think Nick also is going to be running a Catless TBE, so it might not matter much :?

Matt... Greg.. I can't remember who's who.

So Matt's got the Z and is the accountant?

And Greg's got the CP Mustang and is supposedly starting up that shop?

I can also get the teins with no tax. Actually tax realy isn't a problem if you're planning on ordering them and installing them yourself. Even if you order them and have GB intsall it.. The purchase tax can be avoided (i'm pretty sure) I'm not sure about how much they are for the STi, but i can find out. PM me if you are interested.

Done! I just ordered the coilovers, edfc, perrin 25 mm rear sway bar and endlinks.

The '05 did come with metal endlinks, but they still look a little wimpy. so I got the perrin ones for $110 and the sway bar for $175. I think those are good prices considering the fee shipping.

I should have them all by next Monday.

Sweet Nick...I think you'll dig them..Your car is coming along quickly...

Just a piece of advice regarding the swaybar...since you drive in pretty heavy snow regularly, I'd keep it on the softest setting for the winter, stiff rear sway bars can make cars do funny things in snow...
