Never let the driver work on the car...
Default USTCC Reno Crash Video

Here is the first clip of the crash involving me and Neil Vanni. It's about 10Mb.

Neil was in the lead and I was chasing him as we came up on slower traffic. Neil got held up in a critical place (watch his brake lights), and I tried to take advantage of his lost momentum by going around the outside of him.

Watch what happens...

Neil's car rolled 5 or 6 times. It was completely written off. Thankfully, Neil was fine other than being pretty shaken up and very bummed about his car.

The WRX faired better. I got away with a bent control arm, cracked left front wheel, bent right front wheel, two destroyed fenders, bent hood, broken windshield, and an annihilated front bumper/splitter. Even with that damage, I was able to race another 7 laps or so to the end of the event.

I'll have more video later with in-car pointed on me as well.

Wow Gary, thanks for the incredible footage.

I'm amazed at that miata. They just hung out in the racing line taking their sweet time... forcing Neil to look right then have to hesitate and move to pass left. You can see them suddenly realize there was a car back there. I swear that was exactly the type of stuff we used to see the n00b lap traffic drivers do when I raced online... you'd think driving like that would only be online and not in real life where the stakes are much higher.

I can only speculate, but it looks like Neil had exhausted his attention dealing with the Miata that he must not have noticed you passing... it looks like he came over without seeing you.

Good to hear Neil's okay. That's a huge shame about his car though... will he be back this season?
