Default 06 WRX brakes

Question on street prepared rules. The rules talk about back dating for same model but diffrent years. If I'm reading the rules on backdating properly, I should be able to go with four pod front brakes and under brake rules should be able to run slotted rottors the same diameter as stock. Opinions please, I really don't want to rune modified.

You can already run slotted rotors. I am unsure about backdating though, I've never really looked into it.

You can only update/backdate with cars listed on the same line in the classing pages of the rule book, and only USDM versions.

So if the brakes in question meet that criteria, then yes...

Currently all WRXs appear on the same line in SP.

So Dean, even though I did not give you that kiss (no tongue), do you think my future may hold four pod front brakes and maybe even two pod rears if thats what the 06 has?

One more question before I start checking of pricing. What happens if the rules change and I'm looking at running a specific class?

You are stuck... The most likely conditon would be the splitting of the years and the 2.5l being moved to their own line.

You will have to remove the mod, or change to a class that permits it. = Stuck...

Honestly, having run Subaru 4 pots, it's not a real big help for autocross. The weight more than cancels out the larger pad surface IMO. If you plan to track the car much it would be worth it though for sure. And like Dean said, it will be legal until/if the line in Appendix A is changed. Then you would have to go to SM or take off the calipers.

Thanks for your help Mr. Dean. Guess I'd be safe with just slotted rottors and pads. Shoot, I need to look up brake lines. The things two days of autocross gets you thinking about.

Brake lines are legal in everything but stock.

Thankyou all for your help. Time to move on to the brake pad thread and read a couple of times.

4-pots on a 2.0L WRX is probably next to zero weight difference. It's only the unsprung weight of the larger calipers (which is probable what, maybe a pound per wheel?) and zero change in rotational weight because the rotors are exactly the same.

I don't mean to be anal Joeyy, but it is pot, not pod. It refers to the number of pistons per caliper, which do sort of resemble pods. Just letting you know so people don't look at you funny when you say four pod calipers.

I was saying they resemble pods (not a typo) because each piston has its own little "bubble". So I could see why he would think they were pods and not pots.

Pads, lines, and fluid definately did the trick for me. It's perfect for AutoX and spirited driving, but you need a set of race pads for the track.

I don't know... They look much more like Pots than Pods to me...

Let me know when I can move this thread from Technical to General. Or better yet, the trash bin.
