SRT's generally mop up the 2wd open class, and if I remember correctly, there were two or three at the event. I think one or two dominated its class, but I think one retired.

EDIT: found the results.

http://www.renorally.com/results.asp

They don't say which cars were which, but G5 cars are open 2wd cars, and the top spot (Sutherland and Beavis) was the silver SRT-4. The OPEN class car at the top of the list is a Subaru I believe. An older body style impreza with the WRX motor IIRC.

Yeah that RS was fast, and it sounded killer, I have a video of it launching at home. Too bad he launched like a grandma. That white L was fast as hell too, I think he said he had a USDM STi swap. The white bugeye was fast too, but they had tranny problems.

It was a lot of fun to be apart of. Only it was very, *very* brisk outside, and it was way out in the middle of nowhere like 110 miles away. Which is understandable when you have a 60 mile long stage, but still, it was far.

More likely it was a JDM STI swap, since I believe most rally classifications require 2.0L or smaller motors.

I really can't remember, but do the Neons still have their 2.4 liter motors? It wasn't something I put too much thought into.

They probably have a fatty restrictor. Plus they're FWD so they're no where near as fast on dirt as the AWD cars, even if they've got an assload of power.

It's a steel plate with a hole in it. All the air that enters the motor has to do so through that hole.

Here's the one that NASCAR uses at Daytona and Talledega to keep speeds around 200 mph:

So you're saying to make up for the fact that the SRT's have > 2.0L, they have to install one of those? That's rough.

I wish I could find out what kinda specs and internals those cars have, I didn't get a chance to talk to many of the drivers.

It's a pretty common method sanctioning bodies use to establish parity when one car has an advantage over another.

Okay, looked up the real regs.

For Open Category cars with turbos (Open class and Group 5 class), you need an adjusted displacement of under 5100cc. For rotaries, your displacement multiplier is 1.8, for turbo/supercharged the multiplier is 1.7, and pushrod the multiplier is 0.8. So, the SRT-4 in stock configuration is 2400cc x 1.7 = 4080cc adjusted displacement. The 2.0L Subaru motor has 2000cc x 1.7 = 3400cc.

Now, the next reg on restrictor plates is if your adjusted displacement is at or under 4000cc, you use a 34mm restrictor. If it is greater then 4001cc, you use a 30.7mm restrictor.

If I were an SRT-4 driver, I'd mod the motor to only have 2350cc of actual displacement, so that the modified one was just under 4000cc. I don't know what competitors actually do though.

These are the Rally America/ex-SCCA rules. This doesn't necessiarly apply to WRC or other rallies. In WRC, I believe the displacement limit is 2000cc w/ a 34mm restrictor with no option for a larger displacement motor and smaller restrictor.
