Default Boat Tech question

My dad has a 99 ski sanger and it just started having a problem this summer. Its starts perfectly fine and will run like a champ. If you turn it off after its hot from running for a time, it won't start again for an extended period of time. Then once it starts it will run fine again. Questions? Advice?

Doing it just since it has been 90+ or all season?

Depends on fuel system...

Carb:
Choke problem or vapor lock, fuel pump, something heating fuel line/tank/carb.

FI:
"cold start" sensor?, fuel pump, something heating fuel line/tank/rail, injectors, FP reglator, return line clogged?

hmm. its multi-port injection so I dont really know what sensors are included with that. I will have to look into those which you mentioned. thanks Dean

Edit: oh, and it just started doing this a few weeks ago. First time its had this problem for the life of the boat.

Water and air temp has been real high past 3 weeks. There is a thought. Are engine temps OK? Wonder if your water pump/impeller has lost a flap or two or something blocking cooling. Direct cooling (lake water cools engine), or water/water heat exchanger Lake water cools water/coolant mix?

Take a garden sprayer with you next time and see if cooling anything down helps.

Might try running the blower just to lower under cowling temps.

With FI either pressure isn't being maintained, the rail is getting hot and vapor is forming or the controller thinks temp is lower and adding "cold start" and not warm start fuel.

i agree with fuel delivery problems. even with fi. at the end of a fuel rail there should be a schradder style valve. check fuel pressure when good and check again when hot/no-start. fuel pump could overheat.

Check the water pump/impeller before you go. If that is worn/damaged, swap it.
