Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.
Default Best deal from Lithia?

OK, back in '02 Debbie dealt with David Wolpe, who was the Internet sales guy with a minimum of BS. The deal was great, and No back and forth alegedly talking to a manager, etc.

Is he still the man, or is there a different fleet or Internet person?

I dunno about at Lithia, but we know an internet sales manager for Autowest in Roseville. He's sold several cars to i-club members now, including nick (doubleurx) and scott@s-squared. If I buy a car in the near future, it'll be from him as well.

No, they have a used car I want a price on, so another dealer is no help, but thanks.

The internet sales guy at lithia is Rod Alston. He seemed like a pretty cool guy, although he never got back to me when I wanted to know what I could get from them for my car.

I agree with Kevin though, Eric, the guy at Autowest was the best out of about 15 dealers I spoke to last month. He was offering STis for about 2-300 over invoice, and also gave me the best offer for my car. The only down side is that they wouldn't let me drive a car off their lot because I am in NV, they wanted to drive it to the border = 100 miles on the car

I think his name is Rod Allen. I went through him to get my 04. He matched the price I gave him from the Cali subarus. The only thing is he tried to pull some shady trick on me when we already made an agreement on the price. I was ready to walk out. So just becareful.

There was some reason about 8+% tax in California, compared with 6.5 or 6.75% in Carson City, which is why I went with a NV purchase this last time.

You pay tax where it is registered, not where purchased.

It is Rod, but becuase they are paying people way to much for trades, they are asking rediculous prices on used cars.

The STI with 17K, WRX wing, and intercooler they have, aparently they paid $27.2K for. Whiolesale book is $23.6 or so... They are asking $30+ for it which is more than the car's wholesale price when new. Best I could get them down to was $500 over what they paid, AKA a terrible deal.

Oh well.

That may be true of used cars. I paid sales tax of the Carson City rate when I bought the RX-8 though.

OK, you got me, sort of. When you buy in the state you are registering it, you pay tax absed on where you bought it, if you buy it from out of state, you pay no tax to that state, and the DMV charges you tax when you register it in NV, and probably goes by the county it is registered in, not the county of the DMV office you go to.

If you plan to drive a vehicle back from another state, you need temporary use permits, or theoretically, if a cop pulls you over, he could drag you in and make you pay tax for that state. To avoid all that, Sac dealers will often deliver to Boomtown, where you take legal posession in NV, and the car comes up the hill on dealer plates, or a flat bed.

How do you get these so that you can buy a car in CA and drive it off the lot?

In theory, with a VIN number, you can go to the DMV and get a temporary use permit for any vehicle. However, some dealers will not permit them to leave their lot as such, so that is your challenge. Private party deals, this is definitely the way to go. Or just drive carfully like I did with the WRX and cross your fingers.

I bought my '03 in Rhode Island and they let me leave with the car. I'm sure if you arrange it with your insurance the dealer should be fine with it.

What is funny about it is that the pictures look like the roof of the Riverside garage in Reno. Unfortunately, him mods put you right in Street Mod where you will get killed IMHO at anything but a regional level.
