Default Cant find this tire anywhere...

I just read that the Hankook Ventus z221 TD came to the usa a month ago and I'm really interested in running it on the wrx. Just curious if any of you know where to get it. A place that I haven't found.

thanks

From what I can tell, there are 3 compounds, and can't find any in Subaru sizes, and oh, the few sizes there are, well, they are over $400ea!

I finally found a retailer. TunerPlayground.com. They're selling them 335 each plus tax and shipping.. A little out of my budget, but now that I have new wheels, I am forced to buy new tires for the track. Open to suggestions!

Street tires, either Hankook RS3s or Dunlop StarSpecs. You're still a fairly inexperienced driver as far as I know, and it's both safer for you to be on slower tires as well as better for your learning curve. The less your car can cover up your mistakes, the faster you will learn, just like at autocross. In fact, bringing your STI ot to Stead would be a great boost to your skill level, and directly applicable to running at RFR.

RS3's and StarSpecs might even be more tire than necessary. You can probably go with whatever the cheapest max summer tire you can find in the size you want. Then just go hammer the piss out of them at the track w/o feeling like you're wasting your money.

Plus, R-comps are a PITA... the break-away is sudden, so there's gobs and gobs of grip, then you're backwards without warning. Sliding around on some cheap-o tires is way more fun if you don't have to worry about setting fast lap times.

Just pick up some Federal RS-Rs. Cheap, decently reviewed track ready tires that you can burn through without burning through a bunch of money. Under 150/each in a lot of 18" sizes. Run about as wide as star specs, a 255 is a bit over most 265s.

Dont go huge/grippy/pricey. Go cheap. Burn them up. Repeat.

Well then. Get pilot sport cups, even of it means figuring out how to get 19x11" wheels to fit.

I think he should get a set of 18x15 Rotiforms made, and run some 355 BFG g-force. That'd be super reliable and light and tons of grip.

If you go that crazy, a) the wheels better be wider than tall and b) you might as well run true race slicks.

My KDW 2's seemed to do pretty good the last PDX event but they started to feel "greasy" by the end of the day on the track. I still slid around with those a few corners.

I'd love to get out to Auto-x in the STI, I just seem to always have something going that day. I'm kind of looking for 295/30/18 (18x10.5 TE37 SL).. so i bet that narrows it down a bit of what will and will not be readily available..

I was simply following instruction, and providing a completely impractical waste of money option

I just can't wait until they invent a single wheel so wide that you only need one. Like a big rolling pin.

I'm actually considering the R888... haha seems like a good deal to me. If I was gonna spend $300+ a tire I'd just go with the hankooks I was trying to find. haha

Thanks for the links rory.

I thought Sam had the 18x9.5 +22 SL37s, not 10.5? If you're at 9.5, stick to 275s and give yourself more tire options at much lower costs (Federal RSR for nearly half the price).

They're definitely bigger than 9.5. I'll look inside the wheel when I take them off tonight.

Oops, Rory you were right. They're 9.5. I don't know why they looked wider than my 9.5 rotas... I guess I was thinking of his old TE37's that were on his widebody.

So that being said, I'm looking between 275 and 285's.. Not sure if 285's will bulge out. Any input?

That's a 275 Goodyear race tire on a 9.5" Rota, just for a visual reference. You'll have a little bulge, but not a ton. Not like my 265s on my 8" OZ's.
