Default Friend needs help v. 1999 Ford Expedition

My friend has a 1999 Ford Expedition. 180k on the clock. Thing is starting to fall apart, but she wants to keep it going as long as possible.

Current issue: These trucks have that air suspension deal where it raises and lowers when you start the car. Currently, the rear end sometimes doesn't raises back up. Its not all the time, sometimes it works just fine and other times it never raises itself. So the ride gets very uncomfortable and bumpy.

Does this sound like a bad compressor? Could it be something I might be able to fix or does this sound like a pricey shop fix.

Any advice would wonderful .

Thanks guys!

Do a pressure test on the system. Look for leaks.

There is probably a diagnostic procedure in the shop manual, or on-line somewhere.

If it is a bad compressor, I think you'll have to go to the dealer to replace it. Big $$$. Could just be a leak in the line or the airbags too.

Does another trim level have standard spring/strut/shock suspension? If so, there's the fix, a la XT6.
