Default Evolution Schools in May

Some of you have heard Dean and I rave about the Evolution Performance Driving Schools (for Solo2/autocross) we attended last year in Washington.

There are 3 schools being held in Wendover UT, near the NV state line, on Wed. & Thu., May 18 & 19. They are offering Phase 1, Phase 2 and hopefully will have enough drivers for a Drivers Challenge class on Thursday. These classes are right before a ProSolo event at Wendover on Saturday and Sunday. (I also put these on the autocross calendar.) I believe they cost $220 per day.

If you are looking to sharpen your autocross skills, I highly recommend Phase 1 & Phase 2.

Class descriptions are here:
http://autocross.com/evolution/

Signups are through myautoevents.com - linked here:
http://forums.utahscca.com/viewtopic.php?t=1213

(Dean: I sent an email to Mike Deyer, since I could not get signed up on mae without charging my credit card. Have you heard back from him?)

Back on topic... Thee Schools are rally good. Have national champion caliber instructors critique you. I highly reccomend it.

Also, the ProSolo is a blast. 12 runs in 2 days with the possibility of more if you make the run offs.

Head to head drag type starts with a tree... I plan on going...

Are details for the ProSolo up on Myautoevents.? I think I want to go, sounds like a good format. In ProSolo, do they race the same classes as Solo2? Also, is there street tire?

And not so close to a track day. I can't afford all of it.

No, registration for SCCA National / ProSolo events this year are off of scca's website - this should get you to the right page:
http://www.scca.com/Event/Event.asp?...D2B3E0&Id=3025

ProSolo uses the same Open classes (Ladies are clumped into 2 ladies classes, then paxed). There is some minimum number of drivers per class though - so if you were to only have, say, 1 dstock entry, I think he gets bumped to the next harder class.

The have STS/X/U and street mod, but not street tire (i.e. Reno Region class).

Hey Matt (or anyone else) - if you do go to the ProSolo -- put Dean or me down for your referral -- (I think they still do this). We would then earn a buddy certificate that gives us a discount off a future national event. I don't know about Dean, but I am planning to go to the Seattle National Tour in July too.

So, I'd probably have to run SM and get my ass kicked. I don't think my car is STU legal. Hopefully, I'll have some sticky-icky race tires by then to help out.

That, or find a co-drive with someone who is prepped to the hilt (dean ). But, it would be fun to try your own car too.
The drag start/parallel courses is what I really like.

Yeah, the standaing drag start makes the RS go from almost-competitive to best in class in G Stock and DSP. Too bad I'll lose from the first turn on because of not having Hoosiers.

I'm seriously thinking about this after the ass-whipping I took last weekend. The only problem is tires- I don't want to waste my Hoosiers and I don't have an autox-worthy set I can use for the school other than an old set of S02s which are hard as rocks after sitting in my shop for 18 months.

Would a day or two of Evolution school be the difference between the set lasting all year, and not making it? If they'll still last, or you know they won't regardless, then going is probably still a good idea if possible.

A day or two of Evo school will be the difference between going through two or three sets of Hoosiers this year. Wendover has a tire-eating concrete surface.

After a search on S2KI.com:

...I would run the school on street tires to save wear on the precious race tires. The techniques in the schools apply regardless of the amount of grip you have.
S02s it is!

Cool!

Other people on the Evolution autocross forums have asked the same question, street tires or race tires, and time & again the instructors as well as Jean, the school's owner, promote the benefits of using street tires for the school. Last year I ran the school on my MX's; I didn't even think about the tire grip, there were so many other things to learn.

I would agree with that. Evolution is not about your car, it is about your brain. You could do it in a rent a wreck Yugo running on donut spares.

Would that be an ESP class killer too Dean?

I haven't checked www.mattquest.com yet but does anyone know any shortcuts to Wendover?

This is going to be the quickest route. It's wide open and pretty quick. I drove it to Elko last year. I think I made it in about 4 hours. I was tailing a 911 a good part of the way!

Southwest Airlines, RNO to SLC, then rent-a-car.

Are you going to haul or drive your car there? (If Dean & I caravan together, we'll probably both put up our V1's, and cruise briskly up I-80. Maybe we should travel out together?)

Let's see:
Option 1, drive car: 800 miles / 25 MPG x $2.85 / gallon = $91.20 in gas
Option 2, drive truck: FREE!

WWJD?

I'm hoping to find somewhere in 'Mucca to stash the car & trailer for a few days and pick them up as I pass through on my way to Wendover.
