Default FYI: Walgreens is the most expensive place to get prescription medicaiton.

I have been getting my sons medication from Walgreens for the last 1.5 years and my insurance has never wanted to give me a full months worth because of the cost. I assumed that medication was the same price regardless of where you get your prescription filled and that this would always be a problem. So I just decided to do some shopping to see if I could get the full dosage covered at a cheaper pharmacy. I was pretty surprised at the cost differences. I could get the same medication at Target for almost $400 cheaper. I figured that I would post my findings even though some of you are probably already on medicare.
*looks over at Dean*

Walgreens $1720
Longs $1568
CVS $1520
Scolari's $1447
Raley's $1404
Walmart $1375
Target $1332

Wow, I too didn't think there would be a big disparity.

...then again, I get my medications via mail order, since my insurance covers more of the cost if I order 3 months supply of my allergy meds at a time from their preferred mail order pharmacy.

I thought the cost of prescriptions was based on your insurance? I obviously thought wrong. Or is that also a factor?

On my insurance card it says:
RX
Generic $7
Brand $30
Non-formulary $50

Doesn't that mean I only pay 7 dollars for my shit? Cuz I know I only pay 7 dollars when I go.

Yeah, that's the co-pay for normal stuff... but some medications aren't covered like that, some times the ins. company pays a percentage, or only up to a certain amount. If you've got expensive meds, I'm sure it makes a difference where you get them from.

A ha. I understand. I've never needed specialty prescriptions really so that's why I've always payed the same price. Good to know for the future though.

HaHa...

There may be even cheaper on-line pharmacies you may want to look into. There was even a web site that had their true locations and analysis of their business somewhere, but i don't recall where. Google is your friend.

I don't, but they are out there... I'm too old and tired to look them up for you.

Costco has had some better prices for drugs I've gotten in the past.
