That's right around the corner from IGT, next to that Kung Fu Diner place. I wonder if it's that Briana girl from UNR?

Yeah, when I drove back from lunch we saw the police cordoning off the whole area.

Didn't look good.

Ugh. Not good at all. So many people's hopes are WAY up for finding her alive. And there's a good chance that's her.

Unfortunately, if you don't find a kidnap victim within the first day or two... you don't tend to find them alive... Especially with all the attention the family was brining to the kidnapper, the guy probably freaked out.

It's pretty scary and really sad. On one hand I hope it's not her, on the other hand it might be even scarier if it's someone else, 'cause then we've got two crappy situations going on.

Still technically hearsay, but still not looking good

Reno police officers are canvassing businesses near where a woman's body was found this afternoon in a South Reno field.

Jason Rosvall, who works at nearby Precision Tae Kwon-Do, said police officers are looking for witnesses and surveillance tapes.
“He just asked us some questions, then we asked him if it had anything to do with Brianna,” Rosvall said. “He put his head down and said, ‘Yeah, we think it does.’”
He said Prototype Drive appears to be blocked off and the entire field near his business is taped off.
“There’s probably a dozen cop cars or more,” Rosvall said. “From what I heard, the body wasn’t far off the road.”
Reno police have said the unidentified body was found about 12:15 p.m .

My wife's coworker knew Brianna, I guess. This kinda sucks, but I realized that it may turn out this way right off the bat since the guy that's the suspect is a kidnap/rapist and they found blood in the original crime scene.

Let's just hope there are enough clues there to find the guy that did this.

This just kinda makes me ill, considering it means I drove by her body ~30 times.

Quote:
Her body lay in a field near Sandhill Road and Double R Boulevard for more than one week.

What's worse is that there were like 3 "Bring Bri Home" posters hung at that intersection.

Honestly, I'm glad it turned out to be her. There was so little chance of her showing up alive after the second day or so, that I'm glad it isn't some other poor girl instead.

Man.

And for the last week or so, the various PD's have been stopping anyone in the north part of town that looks suspicious, shaking them down, and demanding DNA samples. This happened to one of my lab's grad students at UNR, out on the street near his residence up past the Bonanza Casino at 10pm. Pat-down, interrogation, and DNA swab. I asked UNR PD about it, and they said it's new policy while this case is hot, and "please cooperate". Scary.

Hmm. Not sure of the legality of demanding DNA samples on the spot without PC.

It sounds like they are asking people for one, not so much demanding one.

If so, that's retarded. If they happen to stop the guy who did it, he's going to say no. If I were brass at RPD, I'd be real wary of this as its probably going to lead to negative attention from lawyers with loud political mouthpieces, especially sicne it's not going to find the guy that did it.

They can demand but you can say no. Without a warrant they can't do shit. Considering that there are zero legislative deterrants against law enforcement from keeping your DNA sample indefinitely, the average citizen who is innocent can be harassed for years on end if their DNA is in the database and is matched to some random piece of garbage (soda can, whatever) in the vicinity of a crime scene. For people such as those going to school at UNR, I wouldn't doubt this would be likely if something else happens in the future on campus.

Hence my expectation of lawyers (rightly) getting very upset with RPD in the near future.

Just brought to my attention that Westboro Baptist Church plans to piss people off again. I try my best not to waste emotion or attention to people who are 100% full of hate and have no purpose in life whatsoever. But this gets me bad. Anyways, don't bother reading if you know already know about WBC or don't feel in the mood to be full of rage. It involves them and funeral of girl.

If they plan to picket Denison's funeral, this may actually be the straw that breaks the camel's back. There'll be a riot and a bunch of these WBC idiots will get beaten... which is what they're after as far as I can tell. I think they've just been looking and looking for a reason to sue someone for beating their asses.

Lolz. They're picketing the "incompetent" and "corrupt" RPD because they are attempting to use DNA evidence, and allowing the Patriot Guard Riders to keep WBC away from the funeral? I have nothing more to add to "lolz."

This is exactly my concern. I actually went and asked the UNR PD office about it, and got this:

"Yes, field sample collections are the current policy because of how many assaults have been happening around here, please cooperate because refusing and coming down to the station will waste everyone's time"

To everyday people, they will see it better to submit to a forceful request from an aggressive cop rather than buck the "man". Because of the increasingly widespread use of DNA evidence, I foresee these police-state types of procedures becoming the norm in the future, all in the name of keeping people "safe". Long-term archiving and profiling/cataloguing usage of individual DNA information will be a natural development.

Conspiracy Mode Off.
