The way out is through
Default Dude wrecks out on bicycle... sperry has to stop to help.

So, as MattR, Dean, and I were heading down Stead Blvd. on our way home from the AutoX on Sunday... I noticed some guy unconscience on the side of the road, tangled up w/ his bike! I guess I was the only one that saw him because Dean and Matt kept going when I flipped a U and drove over to the guy.

Now, this guy must have been out for a while, because I didn't see him riding as we came down the street... I just noticed him out-cold on the ground, his arms pinned under him, and his small BMX bike wrapped up w/ his legs, from what I'm guessing was an awful trip over the handle bars. The guy was Latino, probably about 35 to 40 years old. When I stopped there, it took me about 20 seconds to find and retieve my cell phone. As I got out of the car, the guy started stirring.

Luckily, as I made the U turn further up the street, there were 3 highschool kids on their bikes hanging out at the corner. They saw me drive up and stop and noticed the guy too and came over to help.

By now, the guy was trying to get to his feet, and stumbling around. The guy had really busted himself up. His lip was split and bleeding, his face was scratched up, and had a cut and an egg the size of a oblong golf ball over his left eye. Plus the *tops* of his hands were all scratched up in the crash, which tells me he never got his hands out to break his fall. The guy was seriously beat down... like these guys:

Anyway, I tried asking the guy some questions... he was cognizant enough to adamantly refuse to let me call for an ambulance. He also seemed to know where he was, and that his house was just down the street and around the corner. The guys that rode over to help also tried to convince him to let us call for help, but he refused them as well. One of the guys had a cell phone on him, and told me that he and his friends would walk the guy home, since they were heading that way anyway. He said he'd call for help if the guy needed it.

So, props to the guys that came over to help. They looked like your typical Stead-hoodlums just chillin on a street corner, but they stepped up to do a good deed for someone who needed help! I still feel bad that I didn't push harder to get this guy some professional help, but on the other hand, I was afraid that I'd just get him into some deep shit if he was an illegal, or something... I don't know how cool the Stead cops are with situations like that. I hope he was able to get home and have someone take a look at that bump on his head. The fact that he was out cold pretty much means he had a concussion, and from the size of the bump, I gotta think he was probably out for a while before I showed up.

Good deed of the event award goes to Sperry. Your prize, not getting sand blasted on 395.

Yeah, but I still got hit by the dust... just not the full-on tornado deal they went thru.

The guy was about a block closer towards the airport. I had to do a double-take to realize it was actually a guy on the ground. He was wearing black denim and was curled up facing away from the road, so he actually looked like a garbage bag and a bike dumped on the sidewalk... It wasn't until I noticed the bike had legs tangled in it that I realized it was a guy on the ground.

I was wondering why you turned around. I assumed that you were aluminum can hunting so I kept going.

What? No reconstructive surgery? Don't count unless you've got triple-digit stitches. 'Tis merely a flesh wound.

I watched a demographically-similar individual collide with a car on 4th street while he was riding the wrong way......cut him up pretty good.

I'm surprised the idea of another "magnet" didn't come up after the Pope died this weekend.
