Default I like to bug Lithia..

Last time I was at the Subaru dealership and saw their "awards" (look like RC WRC GCs in 1/10th) at the parts counter -

"Do you sell any of those?"
"No."
"Okay.. they look like RC shells..."
"Yeah, they're just awards.."
"Hey, wait. I see a box for one on the shelf over there!!!!!!!!!"
"We don't sell them."
"You broke my heart."

J/K about that last line, but I thought it was pretty amusing as I could see the box from one of 'em stashed back there. I think it was a Tamiya.

I'll be they thought I was a little touched.

Anyone know of a good modeling store around here?

I've been to Hobbies of Reno on Moana near Kietzke and High Sierra Models on Kietzke and Peckham. Both are okay, but not that great for car stuff. Hobbies of Reno is more model airplanes, and High Sierra Models is more for trains, but they both carry some car stuff. They'll occasionally have good kits (I believe High Sierra Models still has their black GC8 rally car model), but sometimes you get nothing.

Yeah, I sneak in there like some polystyrene driven addict and go through 'em once in awhile.

There used to be a hobby place in Carson years ago, but if I remember correctly, it was mostly anime and cult stuff they carried - and they're no longer in the same location.

I have recently started looking for resin models and the process to make them, I have been looking for a 2004 Pro Stock Grand Am, and finaly found them on a racing site, but I have decided to dig a deeper about making my own. I want to make my own 1/43 and 1/24 size slot cars. So I will keep you up dated on my progress. Durago and Auto art have diecast models of the RS and bugeye type bodies, that I have seen so far.

Resin's good. It allows for so much detail. Personally sometimes it's too pricey for me model-wise most of the time.

To this day I only have 3 resins, none completed, none of them car-related. Gathering dust. But I'll get to 'em when I have the extra space to lay things out.

The ones at Lithia are Tamiya 1/10 RC models with the GC rally bodies. Pretty sure they are complete kits minus electronics.

There were only a couple different Tamiya GC kits, and they are no longer made. One of them included an interior tub with driver and nav figures! They are hard to find, and seem to go for about $150 when they do show up on eBay. I want this version bad:

Here's a link to my 1/24th Tamiya GC (Toshi Arai edition) that I built last year.

I knew it! =P

Well.. the box was a dead giveaway. On the other hand, there's only a handful of companies that made GC RC kits..

They're so cool!

I went to an RC place around here and asked if I could special order some stuff, and when I mentioned Tamiya and Kyosho for current models of RC bodies, the guy there was all "You don't want either of those, they're crap."

Well, I do.

Heh.

I would kill for an AutoArt Burns & Reid 1/18, but I have a 1/43 to hold me over.

That's funny. Tamyia is known for their high quality and detailed bodies. As far as the mechanicals go, they are more durable if not as fancy as Associated, etc. Also, there aren't nearly as many aftermarket parts available. But that's what keeps hobby stores going: aftermarket parts and things that break. I love my 1/10 Tamiya chassis'.
