Default Corner Balancing & Alignment Group Buy

Alright race fans, it's time to finally open the corner balancing group buy as promised for this season!

Corner balancing includes Cory setting gross and fine ride height and wheel alignment to your specs, or Cory will determine them based on your desired handling characteristics. We recommend adjustable sway bar end links to avoid having preload on your sway bars after the alignment is set and will have straight-type endlinks in stock for those who want us to provide them. C-style WRX rear endlinks will be available at a later date. Inquire for non-Subaru link availability.

Pricing will be $200 for the group buy, and $255 once it's closed. The buy is on with 5 people in, and closes at 10. Here are the requirements:

-Your car must have height adjustable suspension. Duh.
-Payment is due by Monday, March 11th, and your appointment must be scheduled for between March 19th and April 18th. We will need your car for 3 hours, give or take. PayPal, cash, checks and credit cards are accepted, just inquire within.
-You must have your race wheels and tire setup mounted during the alignment. We will swap wheels for you if you don't want to drive here on them. They should be new, or no more than 50% worn with even wear across the tread.

This will get cross-posted to the SCCA forum in a day or two, but I wanted you guys to have first crack at the discounted price.

-Kevin

I will probably get the Miata done too. I'm just not sure it will be worth it since I'll need to buy new tires first, and since I'd like to eventually get a supercharger on the car which will throw off the balance, and probably require a different alignment anyway to combat power-on oversteer.

A suggestion for those getting corner balancing: not only should your tires be in decent shape, you should also know approximately what pressures you plan to run them at so Cory can pre-fill them. Also, you should be present and able to sit in the driver's seat during the weighing, wearing your helmet and belts if you want to get crazy about it. Finally, you should have about half a tank of fuel in the car, or less if you're running time trials and always run your fast laps on low fuel... either way, fuel level should be about mid-range for whatever range you run at.

No need to be present for the alignment- just tell us how much you weigh and we will use weights in the driver's seat to get it right.

That's probably good enough for most people, hell no driver in the seat is probably good enough for most people, but technically weights in the driver's seat isn't exactly the same as a person, unless you've got a crash test dummy or something for weight.

It's always amazing to me how little it takes to change cross-weight on a car. Something as simple as setting the e-brake while on the scales will change it. So little things like how heavy your legs are in the footwell can change the numbers. Whether or not that actually affects the handling of the car in a meaningful way is up for discussion... especially considering how uncompetitive we all are anyway (this ain't F1!). But I always figure if you're spending the money for time on the scales, might as well get the weight as accurate as possible.

Oh and for you TT people, bring your log book so Cory can record your official race weight in there for classing purposes.

If anybody wants to spend an hour or two in the driver's seat during the job, that's okay with us. But at our competition level, it's not really necessary.

It's also less necessary if you have a heavy car and aren't fat.

But I'm like 10% of the weight of my Miata.

Street modified certainly isn't competitive enough to worry about it.

Oh dang! MikeK putting the SMack talk back into SM!

Really interested in this! But I doubt I will have new tires installed before the scheduled dates. The ones I have are definitely not less than 50% worn. Curse my horrible timing!
