Default Bad news for Reno SCCA AutoX

For those of you not on the RenoSCCA mailing list, here's a copy the news from Dave:

Quote:
Fellow Reno Region SCCA Members,

The following message is from Dave Deborde.

Thanks,

Eric

Subject: Stead Airport Closure

Eric, please forward this to the Reno SCCA mailing list.

As many of you are aware, Reno Region has been using Stead Airport as its primary autocross facility. Unfortunately, I was informed Wednesday morning that we will no long have access to this location. Apparently the Porsche Car Club of America and the Western States Corvette Club have joined together to out-bid us for the site, and Stead has decided their offer is impossible to refuse.

We are currently seeking legal recourse against Stead's decision, and we are looking for alternative sites. Unfortunately, all this will take time, so it seems that this season's Stead events will have to be postponed indefinitely. The events scheduled for Winnemucca, Hawthorne and Lovelock will still be run, but all local Stead events, including the Divisional will most likely be cancelled unless we can find an alternate facility in the next few days.

My deepest apologies to the members of the Reno SCCA. I will update everyone with more information as it becomes available, and this will be the primary topic for next Wednesday's monthly meeting.

Thank You
Dave Deborde
Regional Executive, Reno SCCA
So, it looks like our season is totally fucked. At this point I might as well sell my car and get that STi, since my class doesn't really matter anymore, does it.

Plus this will prolly wax the SubyDude cup as well... unless SD will let us run for the Cup with only 3 events.

I guess now's a good time to get into track days and work on getting RallyX running. Maybe the Solo1 program will benefit from this?

Fuck PCA. Bunch of elitist old rich fucks. Usually you can't even run at their auto-x events unless you're a member.

The Reno Region board of directors got together last night to discuss this. Sorry I couldn't talk about it until Dave published something.

The Lefcourts have agreed to represent us, and are drafting a request for a temporary injunction.

This could get very ugly...

Well, I'm on the same email list as Sperry, and I got no such email, so we shall see.
I thought of that, if that is the case, I will give Scott a HUGE kick to the balls.

You guys are no fun... or you're all too smart.

Austin was the 1st one to call it, so I had to edit his post. Then I had to delete Mike's reply since he caught on. Then Dean figured it out right away... so I had to delete his post, after which he joined in on the joke. Then I go to lunch and Franz figures it out, and before I can mop up his reply Matt's calling my cell phone to talk smack about my 4/1 joke.

I was hoping to hold on long enough to get some of the Sac guys involved, but ya'll are too on top of things.

Hey Scott,

Delete all this crap and let the original message stand. We'll keep our mouths shut and see how many other people fall into this trap.

Naah... the day's mostly over, and pretty much everyone that checks the board regularly knows about it already.

Good job Scott. Glad I could help.

I don't think we can count Austin's post, originally it was this:

I think Mike (who figured it out as soon as he saw Austin's original post above) and Matt are the only ones who posted that were fooled, and even then not really. I was hoping for a huge rant/argument about Porsche and Vette owners, and about Stead being greedy or something.

Oh well, it was good effort... I guess I'll just have to be more convincing next year!

I just now read it, and I fell for it hook, line, and sinker after what Cal Expo pulled on us last year. Meanie head! Scaring me like that (on the plus side, I had relaxed a little bit realizing I could put off my engine swap until I had a little more money).

Good one Scott. But you might've gotten away with more if you had used a reference to a RGJ newspaper article about the construction @ Reno-Stead airport, published in the 2/22/04 Sunday edition. It mentions expanding a runway, improving the landing system and commercial development at the site. When I first read it, I got a little nervous when I saw that the construction should be finished in November.
