Default STI parts questions...

Is the STI air filter that has the STI logo across the top actually different than what comes on the STi stock?

Also, What's better, the pink JDM STi springs or the Eibach's?

I can hear it already..."Get coil-overs" ...I want to try the cheaper route first.

Although the new Ohlins coil-overs look pretty good and the new Prodrive coil-over set-up looks pimpy....someday maybe.

The air filter I'm not too sure about...I run an ITG which has worked pretty well.

You and I are in the same boat with springs though...Coilovers someday, and yes the ohlins are sick looking...however for the time being, I'm going to run the STi Pinks. I hope to order them tomorrow. Eric (qksubi) has the Tanabe springs ( I think) and they ride really well, I imagine the eibachs are even better. Maybe you should go Eibach, I'll go STI and we can compare. Honestly, I think we'd be happy with either spring. I've just heard good things about the way the pinks match up with the stock struts, and that's good enough reason for me to try them.

Good luck man, If you are going to wait a little bit, I should have my springs on in the next week or so., so you can check them out...

Your STi comes with the expensive paper filter. IMO, that's probably the best filter option for the car. It flows well while still filtering out all the little grit that sandblasts your turbine otherwise. I plan to use them when I do my conversion.

The JDM pink springs are definitely better than Eibachs. Many people believe the STi struts are actually suited best to those springs. Because of that, I personally don't think coilovers are the first option on a street-driven STi.

Crap, looks like I didn't hear about this yet. Is this another example of STi parts that don't come on the STi, like strut tops and engine mounts?

I know my air filter does not say STi on it
I know the stock filter is a paper filter
I know if you ask nice I could bring the stock filter to the next meet
I know I have never seen the STi filter in person so could be talking out my A**

Yeah that's the bitch... trying to figure which STi labeled parts are upgrades to the stock STi components. If you search around for STi mods or parts you don't find parts for modding an STi, for the most part you find STi parts which are for modding the WRX. I do know the JDM STi pink springs are an upgrade to the USDM STi's and I imagine the hardened strut tops are too...and I think the trailing and lateral link sets; other than that I'm clueless.

So whats the concensus on the STi air filter? I'm reading both...
Mine doesn't say STi anywhere on it ...
