Have you addressed the oil consumption issue yet? Do you think the new turbo might help or is it a motor issue?

No, I have not really addressed the oil consumption. I have a rebuilt a short block and i have a head gasket kit, but they are on the floor of Tommy's garage. I could either move my current heads over or get them freshened up first. I'd like to go that route as i would expect/guess i could get an other 130K miles out of the motor the way i treat it (lots of racing, lots of hard driving)

he took the turbo out (chasing down a coolant leak) and said its broken. which the last time i drove it the car made no boost at all (i thought i was due to being in limp mode Cel + flashing cruise) but i think it went into limp mode due to the dead turbo...

Anywho i actually just had my "make an offer" accept on Ebay ... they were asking $400 and i offered $300. i'm a bit shocked they took it (but happy)

Agreed, the TD04 on the 2.5 WRX was terrible. The 39 falls on its face on the 2.5 and the TD04 dropped off in the middle of the rev band.

Duh! I wasn't suggesting that Alex get a TD04. Rather, I was trying to make Alex feel bad that his stock turbo is so much more expensive than my stock turbo. Yes, I'm that good of a friend.

You're a turbo.

Wait, you had a TD04 on your car? Was it tuned properly?

*bump*

I need an other one. i got one off ebay for $300. car ran great... for 1 mile.. then the heads seized .. it appears my oil pick may have a slight crack after the pressure sensor, as the heads and turbo appear to have suffered oil starvation.

Heads come back from AIMS on Monday. I also need a complete timing belt kit /w water pump. but i doubt anyone has one of those laying around...

Actually, quick question :

how good are the rebuild services I've seen around forums and ebay for turbos? Is that a better route than buying a used turbo?

It is if they offer a warranty.

KSpeed may have a TB kit in stock, and even if not it will be worth waiting for them to get another one.

I'll have to call them up... do they do the turbo rebuild themselves or they just have the kit? I don't think i should be rebuilding my sti turbo.. sounds easy to make an expensive mistake...

Kspeed, doesn't rebuild turbos. TB = timing belt. I answered two posts with one response.
