The way out is through
Default FS: 2001 F-250 SuperDuty

So my wife and I have been shopping for a while to replace her Outback sedan with a crossover or wagon of some sort. We were all set to buy a new CX-5 with the diesel... but Mazda had the bad form to not bother and sell it in the US even though they're going to release the diesel Mazda 6.

So, after some more thinking, we realized that perhaps we should just be upgrading our pickup instead of buying a crossover. Her Outback is a little smaller than we want for carting the new kid around in... but, ironically, our F-250 SuperDuty is actually even less useful. Due to the extended cab not being large enough for a baby seat, it's actually just as useful as the Miata if my wife and I ever have to go somewhere without a baby sitter watching the baby.

So, even though I *love* my truck, and even though it's been totally reliable, and even though it's got ridiculously low mileage... it's up for sale so we can buy a newer truck with a crew cab.

Here are the specs:

2001 Ford F-250 SuperDuty XLT, extended cab, long bed, 4x4 automatic, only 75,000 miles, dark red
- 7.3L turbo diesel V8 (the last generation 7.3L before Ford started using the terribly unreliable 6.0L)
- cloth seats with folding center seat, 60/40 folding rear jump seats
- 2x4, 4x4 low/high transfer case, manual locking font hubs
- long bed, with composite bed box & spray-in bedliner
- sliding rear window
- relatively new Pirelli Scorpion tires, probably 5000 miles on them
- Edge ECU programmer/monitor (bumps up power/mileage... I've always run in tow or standard mode, but you can crank it up for a bit more power)
- ISS gauges in A-pillar: boost, EGT, trans temp
- DEI remote start/keyless entry
- Just last month I retrofitted in the 2005-2007 style headlamps because the originals were yellowed, + clearbra on the new lamps
- Hella 700's on the front bumper, bed light on the back of the cab
- battery tender and block heater under the hood
- power inverter under the driver's seat
- autodimming rearview mirror
- voyager brake controller
- tow package (extendable mirrors, hitch, etc.)
- Eclipse CD player w/ Sirius and iPod integration, upgraded speakers
- brand new windshield last October

I bought this truck in the summer of 2006, just in time to tow the WRX out to Hawthorne for the N/S Challenge. Since then, it's been an awesome tow vehicle, not to mention perfect for picking up lumber and steel, trees from the nursery, or moving couches, etc. We don't drive it much, but it's hard to imagine getting some jobs done without it. Cory and Bob over at KSpeed do all the oil changes and maintenance. I've never had a problem with the truck outside of a bad battery (which sucked because with two batteries, the voltmeter still reads 12V even when the truck refuses to turn over) that was replaced in the fall under warranty.

I'm asking $18,000 for the truck. If/when it goes on CraigsList/AutoTrader, I'll be asking closer to $20k. Amazingly enough, if you want a diesel 4x4 pickup with under 100,000 miles on it for under $20k, you've got like 5 to choose from on the west coast without the 6.0L Ford motor that will cost you $5000 in parts alone to make reliable. So, I figure $18k is a pretty good deal for someone in the club.

Good luck Scott, the truck should sell very quickly with that 7.3.

Yeah. I figure I can sell it fairly easy online, or just trade it in on whatever we get next, but I'd rather someone locally score it since it's a great truck.

I'd really like to find a low mileage crew cab F350 with a 7.3L, but they're just impossible to find so I don't think I can make a lateral move. We're thinking 2008 Super Duty instead. But unfortunately, they're like $30k and up, so we're really stretching our budget. The 6.0L trucks are just too risky in terms of reliability, and I'm just not loving the same generation Chevys or Dodges. If only Nissan or Toyota had ever gotten around to building a diesel.

After having had a diesel, I just don't want a gas truck. Towing is so incredibly easy with 500ftlbs of torque!

Mmmmm nice. I wish I needed one. That's set up well. Should sell in a heartbeat.
