Default Painting Wheels

So, I have set out to paint my Stock STi BBS wheels. Yes, I'm spray painting my uber-expensive stockers myself, yes i know I can ruin the wheels. However, I've done this before with success.

The only difference is, this time, I'm doing it with the tire still mounted. A bit more challenging, but if I overspray, no big deal,,, the rims are going to be tire color anyway.

I have just completed thorough cleaning, as well as a heavy steel wool application, to rough up the surface. There's no way I'm wet sanding these wheels, it will take me two months. I think the surface is good enough for painting, so I'm off to find the right paint now...

Update to come later.

That is almost a criminal waste of those awesome BBS wheels. How about I swap you your wheels for my stock WRX rims, (I will even include the awesome all weather tyres I have on them) and you can paint them without having to worry about whether you screw it up?

I just purchased some late turbo eclipse wheels painted black and I think they look awesome. Good luck with your wheels. I'm going to recommend trying to not paint the ring around the rims - keep that silver

I can't tell from the pictures, but if you did not mask the lug seats, please get tehm back down to bare metal before putting them on a car.

maybe he is worried about them working loose, or the paint chipping away in true ghetto fashion.

Yup.
You should be re-torquing them after a few miles anyways; at that point, just pop them loose, pull off the lugs and dust 'em off, and you'll be fine.

Potentially ruining expensive stuff is great. Reminds me of cutting holes in my hood with a Sawzall for the hood scoop. If you do it right, then it's not really ruined. But if you fuck it up, then you're fucked. Way to go Matt.
