These are *great* wheels for autox. Very light, 15 lbs ea IIRC.

Though, I think they're 17x8... I don't remember ever seeing a 7.5" wide RPF1... but Enkei does occasionally make weird sizes. Either way, they'd work with a 235/40/17 tire on 'em, which it about as ideal as it gets for autocrossing a WRX.

They actually do make a 7.5" and a 8" version for the RPF1, The 7.5" version being +48mm and 15Lbs, the 8" version being +45mm offset and 15.5lbs.

I have been doing LOTS of wheel homework lately

is it possible to fit 245/40/17 on a 7.5" rim? i know it would be a stretch, but just wondering if anyone has done it successfully.

I look up on Tire Rack page, it's only show some 45 series not 40. May be too stretch for 40 series.

They'll fit, but they'll suffer a bit from sidewall rollover, I'd imagine. No biggie, just a little less crisp of steering response and a tiny bit less traction, I think.

The last time I had 235/40/17 tires put on 7.5" rims, the shop had a hell of a time getting them mounted. I imagine 245s would be even worse. I'm sure it's possible, but not optimal.

Yep, SO3s. I'm guessing they have a stiffer sidewall than a lot of other tires.

If by a lot of other tires you mean all tires that aren't DOT R-compounds, yeah pretty much.
