I've had good luck with wheel painting, you have to take your time.

New advertising gimmick: "Free Legacy intake with every Venti Mocha."

And on-topic (wow!), how long does it usually take to do all four wheels, and do them right?

I really take my time with cleaning, sanding, more cleaning, inspections, then paint. I average a wheel in about an hour and a half, maybe less.

When my tires wear down on the SSRs and I have to change them I'm going to look into some options for fixing the cosmetic chip damage I have on two of them. I don't know if I will paint them, but I'll see.

Oh well.....I'm scared.

It really doesn't matter...I just cannot justify the cost of powdercoating when I've done just fine with my painted BBS's. But if you have the money to spend and don't care, then by all means powdercoat.

Um.... all hands to battle stations?

BTW: JC... after Matt went off in Lovelock, he had to repaint his wheels. And I believe Eric had to repaint one his 'cause someone tipped it over on its face.

Home painted wheels can look just as good as/better than stock if you take the time to do the prep right and clear coat them. However I would say they're about 80% as resiliant to damage as the factory paint that's put on at high temperature. But the nice thing: if you damage the paint... all you gotta do is repaint 'em! It's not hard, especially if you're flat blacking 'em.

Yeah, I had to repaint one of my BBs's, as well as Eric's, which I dropped on its face... both would have scratched anything though.
