So I walk into a bar....
Default More ?'s about the exhaust...

So my stuff will be here on Fri and I'm searching around here and nasioc as well as the manufacturer for the fix for the imminent CEL(s) I'm gonna have Fri night when it's all installed and I can't find anything that says it will fix anything above an 04. Anyone have an idea on what I need specifically for my 07 wrx? (Header+uppipe & turbo back) I've seen the spacer looking deal but from my understanding that will only get rid of half the problem. Help! CELs would definitely be the thing that would make my penis soft after installing a new exhaust

You need engine management.

Enginuity.org freeware FTW! You can borrow my cable.

I did run Perrin's fix for a year+ and it worked (on an '04).

You won't see all the benefits of the exhaust without engine management though.

+1 for Engine Management. You may see some power without EM but it's not safe. At least I believe the 07's also have the CL/OL transition delay issue.

The current preferred EM solution is the Cobb AP. They have recently released the Version 2 so you can usually pick up a used Version 1 for cheap ($350-$400 shipped usually). More info: http://www.cobbtuning.com/info/?id=2539&rsku=0

I always suggest a custom tune. My tuner is Ed of EQTuning. He does excellent work.

Or if you feel capable of tuning yourself, look into the open source solutions that have emerged. There are even "off the shelf" maps (AKA: basemaps) for most common setups. All you need is the cable that Knucklesplitter offered. Dean has a thread around here somewhere with all the links.

I would have to borrow your brain along with the cable man! I am still a little intimidated by the whole engine tuning thing, never having done it before and all. Do you know anyone in the reno/sparks area who will reflash an ecu for cash and/or beer?

I doubt it. I sure don't. There is David over at forcefed racing... but I would never EVER tell anyone to even go over there.

Ed has come up twice this summer to tune Subarus. If you're interested in road tuning, shoot him an email.

If you buy an accessport it will come with a base map that matches your mods, and you can still get a custom map later if you wish.

If for now all you want to do is disable CEL's pm/call me and I will hook up my laptop and do eet. Only takes 15 minutes or so. If we can find a stage 2 map for your car then I could load it up too (but caution is advised).

Are the '07 ECUs already cracked by the open source folks? I thought they were way behind the curve compared to Cobb and EcuTek... but I haven't been paying attention in the last 2 years or so to the open source software.

Actually I've heard that the OpenECU community was the first to decode the 07 STi's....the rumor was that Ecutek got the code from OpenECU.

However, ECUTek is the first to crack the new CAN bus system (the new Legacy GT with SI drive is not OBDII but CAN Bus). So, at least for now, they are the only option for Legacy GT cars with SI-Drive.

Are there any open source options for the NA ECUs? All I (eventually) want to do is raise the rev limit, and it's too expensive using EM, and can't do it with piggybacks.

What good is raising the rev-limit on an otherwise stock motor? It's not going to make more power up there, and you'd just be risking the motor. With the exception of being able to hold a gear just a little bit longer at autocross, there's no benefit, and all sorts of risk.

I plan to do cams and basic headwork on an EJ25 whenever I get around to another project. 7500RPM or so would be nice. I don't want to go to a Hydra for an NA motor.

What was your experience with this approach? (I thought you told me once that you've used the access port also?) Having never touched an ECU would you recommend getting an access port or buying a laptop? Pros/cons?

Thanks man

Unless you are ready to buy a boost gauge, an EGT gauge, a wide band O2 setup, as well as a laptop, I would stick with off-the-shelf maps (or professional tuning). Accessport is a good option and anybody can load and switch maps easily. If you can find good Enginuity maps then I can load them in for you for free though. I have a tuner friend in SoCal who does beta testing for me - I will ask him if he has any.

Again though, if all you want to do for now is get rid of the CELs then I can do that quickly, and I owe you a favor anyway. I will be out of town 8/10 - 8/21.
