Default Engine hoist rental?

Anyone know a cheap place where I can rent an engine puller?

Basically, you can't. I've been looking for one for two weeks and nobody does it anymore. Your choices are buy one, or use a chain hoist in someone's garage attached to a truss.

I would suggest, instead of attaching it to "A" truss, you should attach to multiple trusses. Take a 4x4 post or 2" Round Bar stock and span about 4 trusses. You may also want to support your trusses with an additional 2x4 at the point of load. I.E. where the 4x4 ends at the last truss.

Also, the last time I looked into renting an engine hoist, I discovered that is was actually cheaper to just buy one. I found one at Costco, unfortunately, I don't have it anymore. My ex-wife stole it.

I too am looking for an engine hoist at the moment.

I was planning on going with a HF unit and trying to sell it off on forums and then CL. They are $160.

I dunno about going HF for a cherry picker. I have several tools from HF but they're not items that could seriously injure me if they break.

Or cause $10,000 in damage if they drop your new race motor on your fender.

If I had a race motor (or fenders for that matter at this point) no, I wouldn't go to HF. But since I've got a $300 motor going in a $1200 car, and it only has to work once, I'll take my chances to save some money. Actually I will probably be going with a chain hoist in my dad's garage. It's actually got a pretty trick electric winch setup in there already, so it will easily support the weight... but the motor's so old it burned up and killed half of the circuit breakers in my dad's vintage 1938 house.

I no longer need to rent the hoist. A family friend has one he will let me borrow.

If that falls through I've got one you can borrow. Cost you a beer. It worked putting my $1200 dollar engine into my $500 car....2x!
