Default GeoGuessr - How well do you know the world

Simple yet somewhat fun game. Take a google street view, and try to figure out where you are in the world. 5 rounds. Some pictures are a little easier than others.

So far, my best score is somewhere in the 7000s. I keep messing up the Australian outback ones though.

1st try, 13406. Getting the Grand Canyon on round 5 saved me though.

Bo-friggen-yam. With a little "cheating' (i.e. driving around the street view and google searching the things I found), I broke 30,000 points.

It's nice to know, if you get dropped back on Earth in a random location after the aliens are done probing you, as long as your smartphone has a signal, you won't have to act like a crazy person asking everyone "what continent is this!?"

I had one game last night with one of the stops at the entrance to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium. That one was worth like 6000+ points without cheating.

I had that one come up too, it said I missed it by like .0001 KM or something, lame.

Also, there was one in Napier, NZ that I recognized without looking it up, as I had been on that very sidewalk, kinda freaked me out a little bit. Pretty cool excuse to check out different places. I like how they blur out obvious signs and text...

I think the blurring is from Google. They've got some algorithm that attempts to detect and blur out faces and license plates for privacy reasons. It's pretty aggressive, so lots of things that aren't faces or license plates get blurred because they just happen to kinda-sorta look like one to the algorithm.

Best so far, 24070 with some good googling, though my Mexica google isn't quite so hot.

It seems like 6000 or so is the highest point total? Have you seen higher?

I think I've had a few in the 64xx range when "cheating". And that's at like 0.002 km away... 6500 might be the max. Or maybe 7000.

Yes, I'll fix it for you. Again.

Got 11,226 for my first try on this crappy hotel connection, no Googling, just panning a maximum of 5 views per location.

OK, my second round on my second try just landed me in a plaza in Valparaiso, so I was able to get it to 0.075km for 6473 points. Total was 17,351 with a little more panning around, but still no other references but the Geoguessr.

Wait, nevermind... looks like the Golden Gate wasn't in that game, it was the game before.

One more random one.

By the way, my guess of Great Barrier Reef, was not right.

That's actually the fish tank at a Sizzler in rural Ohio.

15724 on my first try, but the 4th one was across from the Bellagio in Vegas, and I recognized a town name in Oregon and would have been closer but got my directions mixed up.
Looking at cars gave a lot of easy clues, though. Australia, Finland, and even South Carolina and central Oregon have "types".
