225/40/18 are 15 revolutions/mile too few and
225/35/18 are 14 revolutions/mile too many

compared to 215/45/17. I really ain't worried about it :lol:

TireRack's got 225/40R18 Kumho MXs on sale for $108 apiece. Probably about $100 or a little less with the Khail discount. They'd actually be decent autocross tires on top of good daily use tires.

Bad News on the Group Buy guys...

My guy can't get the RT 215 (Old Sport) Azenis. Falken is no longer selling them to distributors, he was told that Discount Tire has the last of them.

Also, the price of the new RT 615 will be $164!!!!!!!!!!!111!! Ouch. Not sure where that matches up to Discount.

Nick, the ST-115 in a 225-40/18 is $139. Again, not sure where that price compares. Let me know if you have any interest.

Well, Discount Tire Direct has the ST-115 for $116/tire + shipping, so I don't think I'll go that route. I might try the Kuhmo Ecsta MX from Tirerack.

After shipping, you might have a slight discount. I really don't know how much it costs to ship 4 tires from wherever the DTD warehouse is now (Vegas?).

I just checked, and the MX 245/40-17s are only $129 which isn't as good a deal but We'd need to know what the Khail discount would be, and it saves $32 in shipping. (8 bucks a tire form DT)

Okay, I came across some reviews of the RT 615, a couple of people took them out at a test and tune...:

""2 x 10 lap sessions on a 48-62 sec course (depends on class). They squeal much more than the 215's. But not in an RE92 way, they feel like a cross between the RE070 and the 215. They DID NOT get greasy until the 9th lap- this was a test and tune- finish line ang getting to the next run was 2 minutes tops. There was a red flag DNF so I managed to get a 5 min break and the tires were as grippy as ever. I ran my best time of the day (54.1) on that lap. I'm still a novice level driver so I did not check in/mid/out temps of the tires or play with pressures too much. I like them more than the 215's on the street and at AutoX. We'll have to wait for a seasoned driver to chime in to see if its faster than the 215's. ""

"I'd call the 615's and the RE070's dead even in dry traction. For Autocross the feel of the RE070 is better with sharper turn-in. The 615 did not get squirmy until 7+ laps in a row, whereas my 215's would be mush on lap 3 with a 10 min cooldown in between runs. I think the only place the 615 is the overall winner is on the street- with wet handling much better than the 215 or RE070 and dry traction a toss up. Road noise is fairly even with the RE070 and I suspect it will increase with wear to match the 215's"
