1ST Gear
Is it just me or is 1st a little picky about how its engauged?
(whether it be slow speeds, or reving in neutral and dropping it in 1st at the right rpm) |
Redline shockproof will clear that right up.
|
Don't even get me started on the 1st gear problem.. lol
|
It's not just you, and like Khail said, Redline Lightweight Shockproof will work wonders.
|
So, to somewhat extend the Fluids thread where RL Shockproof was discussed...
I want to take away the grinding and unsmooth shifting in my L, but don't want to compromise front diff and trans protection for long, hot, extended road trips. It wasn't clear to me the exact downsides of Lightweight Shockproof in the Suby tranny application, especially in regards to temperature conditions (very hot vs. cold). What about Heavyweight Shockproof 75W90? I dropped some regular GL-5 in the rear diffs last week, and I'm going to do the 5MT next. |
You want some Lightweight Shockproof Scott. The heavyweight is, well, too heavy. It's meant for racing gearboxes that run at higher temps than you will ever see. Ultralightweight would be fine too.

Just so you know this a VERY common WRX transmission problem. Really the only way to engage it quickly is a good rev match. I also put some Redline Fluid in my car at it helped a lot. I have a pretty good transmission as far as WRXs go you can ask around. Don't expect it to shift like a BMW or anything though. If you don’t feel like changing the fluid yourself go to the Chevron Carwash Lube Place on South Virginia near IN and Out. Ask for Sean with the white RS-T and tell him Tyson sent you!! |

So the UL acts like regular 75w90NS?
|
So mixing is OK as long it's the same manufacturer, eh?
|
I think the UL is too thin to grab the synchros, much like straight 75w90ns. I've used straight LW and 50/50 LW/75w90ns mix. I like the straight stuff better, but the mix should be better for commuter duty.
