Is it just me or is 1st a little picky about how its engauged?
(whether it be slow speeds, or reving in neutral and dropping it in 1st at the right rpm) |

So, to somewhat extend the Fluids thread where RL Shockproof was discussed...
I want to take away the grinding and unsmooth shifting in my L, but don't want to compromise front diff and trans protection for long, hot, extended road trips. It wasn't clear to me the exact downsides of Lightweight Shockproof in the Suby tranny application, especially in regards to temperature conditions (very hot vs. cold). What about Heavyweight Shockproof 75W90? I dropped some regular GL-5 in the rear diffs last week, and I'm going to do the 5MT next.

You want some Lightweight Shockproof Scott. The heavyweight is, well, too heavy. It's meant for racing gearboxes that run at higher temps than you will ever see. Ultralightweight would be fine too.

I think the UL is too thin to grab the synchros, much like straight 75w90ns. I've used straight LW and 50/50 LW/75w90ns mix. I like the straight stuff better, but the mix should be better for commuter duty.
