Reno Region SCCA members and friends,

Thanks to great work by our Director of Solo Events Wes Friesen, we've now received the official SCCA sanctions for our April 25-26 season-opening Solo events at Reno-Fernley Raceway! Barely two weeks after we discovered that our usual Solo site at Stead Airport is unusable because of pavement problems, Reno Region is ready to launch its revised 2009 Solo season. So, come on out to Reno-Fernley Raceway this weekend and enjoy some fast, fun courses with your friends!

If you ran in our Reno-Fernley Solos last summer, you'll find the site and procedures this weekend to be much the same. Our courses will be on "The Peanut," a section of road course on top of the hill. Our Solo paddock area is on the "Sunset Straight" on the far western edge of the facility. It's easy to get to: Reno-Fernley Raceway is just five miles south of Fernley on U.S. Highway 95-Alt. Once there, follow the signs to the road course. When you get to the main road course paddock, Reno-Fernley personnel will direct you. We'll be "convoying" in and out of our area during breaks in the open testing that will be taking place on the lower road course. Your best bet is to arrive early and plan to spend a full half-day at the site, but we'll work closely with R-FR to make sure those who need to get in or out can do so with minimal delay.

Our daily schedule will be normal -- Registration and Tech will open at 8 a.m., morning driver's meeting at 8:45, afternoon driver's meeting not before noon. The Run Group order will be WBYG on Saturday and GWBY on Sunday. If you haven't yet looked them up on our website, here are the 2009 run groupings: White is A through E Stock; Blue is ASP, SM and SSM (what used to be SM2); Green is B through F Street Prepared and Street Unlimited; and Yellow is all others.

Don't let the weather forecast keep you at home -- remember, showers along the Sierras usually don't make it out to Fernley. Questions? I'll do my best -- email me at jrgandy@peoplepc. com. See you at Reno-Fernley Raceway this weekend!

Jim Gandy
Regional Executive
