Reno Region SCCA members and friends,

Here's good news for our Solo enthusiasts. Our revised Solo season schedule will start April 25-26 with two points events at Reno-Fernley Raceway! We're currently working on getting the required sanction and other approvals, so not all the details are firm yet. But, you can expect the courses to have much the same character as last fall's Reno-Fernley Solo events (that's so we can shorten the approval process). The daily schedule will be the same as our other events, and the run group order will be what we had previously published for the cancelled May 2-3 Stead events -- that is, Saturday WBYG, Sunday GWBY.

As far as the rest of our 2009 Solo season is concerned, remember that our May events will be the North/South Challenge at Hawthorne, Memorial Day weekend (look for the event flyer on our website, renoscca.org) . And, we've lined up three additional weekends at Reno-Fernley Raceway: Aug. 22-23, Sept. 19-20, and Oct. 17-18. Keep in mind that there are several different areas of R-FR where we can hold Solos, so those late summer/early fall events should feature different courses and different challenges. We're also working on sites for June and July events -- we may have more news to share in the next few weeks!

Awesome news. I would have died a little inside if I couldn't autocross this year. Go Jim!

Well that's good news I guess. It's too bad events at RFR are so much more work to put on for what I though was a less fun course.

It's also bad news that RFR seems to have a lot of free weekends in their schedule if they're able to give us all that track time for autocross. That doesn't bode well for them surviving the bad economy.

That sucks. I wish the schedule hadn't changed but I'm sure it was necessary. I was going to install Konis that weekend but I don't mind postponing that.

I actually really enjoyed the course at RFR last season. Maybe it's just because I haven't been on the track before, and I got to enjoy the environment a bit more. I'm definitely looking forward to being there!

HR is asking for input on choosing a day for our annual picnic. Anyone know if any of these dates are not likely to be an autoX day?

6/20
6/27
7/11

Cody.

Will there be a bounce house?

I'd say 6/20 would be your best bet...6/27 is my event, and they're trying to leave it alone, and 7/11 is a track event, so I don't think that will be moved.

But it's probably a decision that will be made as more info comes available.

So, you're pretty much fucked.

I can't afford track days this year so 7/11 sounds like my best bet.

This email came in on Monday, for those of you that aren't signed up for the the Yahoo emails:
Quote:
Reno Region SCCA members and friends,

Thanks to great work by our Director of Solo Events Wes Friesen, we've now received the official SCCA sanctions for our April 25-26 season-opening Solo events at Reno-Fernley Raceway! Barely two weeks after we discovered that our usual Solo site at Stead Airport is unusable because of pavement problems, Reno Region is ready to launch its revised 2009 Solo season. So, come on out to Reno-Fernley Raceway this weekend and enjoy some fast, fun courses with your friends!

If you ran in our Reno-Fernley Solos last summer, you'll find the site and procedures this weekend to be much the same. Our courses will be on "The Peanut," a section of road course on top of the hill. Our Solo paddock area is on the "Sunset Straight" on the far western edge of the facility. It's easy to get to: Reno-Fernley Raceway is just five miles south of Fernley on U.S. Highway 95-Alt. Once there, follow the signs to the road course. When you get to the main road course paddock, Reno-Fernley personnel will direct you. We'll be "convoying" in and out of our area during breaks in the open testing that will be taking place on the lower road course. Your best bet is to arrive early and plan to spend a full half-day at the site, but we'll work closely with R-FR to make sure those who need to get in or out can do so with minimal delay.

Our daily schedule will be normal -- Registration and Tech will open at 8 a.m., morning driver's meeting at 8:45, afternoon driver's meeting not before noon. The Run Group order will be WBYG on Saturday and GWBY on Sunday. If you haven't yet looked them up on our website, here are the 2009 run groupings: White is A through E Stock; Blue is ASP, SM and SSM (what used to be SM2); Green is B through F Street Prepared and Street Unlimited; and Yellow is all others.

Don't let the weather forecast keep you at home -- remember, showers along the Sierras usually don't make it out to Fernley. Questions? I'll do my best -- email me at jrgandy@peoplepc. com. See you at Reno-Fernley Raceway this weekend!
