Default STI Insurance rates are insane!

So I new that my new car would probably be less than the STI, but I was amazed at the difference for the exact same coverage:

2005 STI: $989 - 6 months
2007 BMW 335XI: $395 - 6 months.

WTF!

When I had mine, it was $153 / month. That was through Progressive. Now with the mustang, same exact insurance coverage as teh STI, $52 / month.

He's in Vegas now, but I believe he still works for AllState. PM him and I'll bet he can help out, or you could talk to Liz Garver (Art's mom) at his old branch, and she knows about the club and it's on the ball as well.

I have really high coverage with an umbrella, and it was the best quote I could get. My old '03 WRX cost half what the STI did. I even had Art give me an Allstate quote and it was the same. I have Hartford insurance.

That cost worked out to $164.83 / month - that's not too much more than $153. I would guess that most California STI owners are paying equally high rates considering my age, no accidents and no speeding tickets.

Nick is correct - I asked the reason back when I first got the car and I was told the same thing: A high number of young drivers, multiple incendents and claims on that car place it to be the 4th most expensive car to insure. The EVO VIII takes the number one spot.

You guys suck... the SVX and the WRX are in the same bracket for insurance. Plus I've got a truck on there too! But I'm still under $200/mo.

I really should drop the WRX insurance, since it's not even registered... but if I can ever get it smogged, I'd like to be able to take it to meets and test it around the block after working on it... not to mention have it covered if I should happen to crash with it on the trailer.

Actually I get a discount for being an engineer! My liability limits are low (CA minimums) but I don't intend to hit anyone. $1000 deductible on comp and collision.

That is probably the difference. If you don't own your own business or hang your butt out there with some form of liability you are probably OK. Once you own a home or something of more value you definately should have higher limits.

How much are those 20's worth?
